turned on disney’s descendants during work and i’m walking away with so many questions that it’s actually put me in a better mood than the film itself

insane implications of the descendants universe which i’m not trying to be a pedant about to justify thinking the film was just kind of cringe and bad but seriously, what the fuck:

- the villains have all been sent away to a magic-free prison island which seems to be kept in a state of perpetual economic struggle and everyone on the nice side of the river is really chill with this - contrarily, everyone in the good kingdom is loaded as FUCK, even shang and mulan who were definitely well off but not royal family rich by modern standards; this is an important distinction to make because this world operates on modern tech and economic policies

- speaking of which, maleficent keeps her spellbook in a beat up fridge - also every disney character on either side of the moral binary is a dogshit parent as it turns out because most of their kids are colossal assholes - seemingly jafar’s takeaway from the events of aladdin was that rather than conniving and coming up with underhanded longterm schemes even harder (which did actually work out for him!) he simply needed to be stealing more - maleficent is old money evil. generational wealth evil - the movie is a musical but also, “be our guest” is a song that exists in universe

- france exists (whether china exists is debatable because seriously, mulan and shang named their daughter lonnie????) - also yeah mulan, sleeping beauty, and 101 dalmatians have apparently all happened concurrently enough in world history for their kids to all be the exact same age and go to school together - simultaneously, dopey at some point had sexual intercourse and/or donated sperm for artificial insemination - ben figures out mal love spelled him and this was apparently in his opinion just a cute way for her to make the first move
