I started keeping my project journals in disorganized notebooks, then switched to markdown notes, then back to notebooks but this time organized, then asciidoc notes. Now I’m back to a physical medium but this time it’s index cards and I’m feeling hopeful this will be it.

To top it all off, if you don't like the default names or would like to delete some of those directories, you can't do it. Or if you do - like with xdg-user-dirs - there is no guarantee that applications will honor the setting.

Using a "Photos" app to manage a project's visual documentation, and then putting the actual documentation into another folder is disjointed on every platform out of the box. Either you create a massive document with everything in it or you mix media types in a generic folder.

Kinda tired of desktop environments telling me how to organize my home directory. Organizing files by their type makes so little sense to me. I don't think about "the code for project A" and "the pictures for project A". I just think about project A and everything in it.
