All these posts about #survivor players unable to spell and yes that was sometimes the case but I'm pretty sure many had their side right... If the double T is flipped around it would look right to them but be switched letters to the camera! #survivor48

As someone who spends a lot time thinking about the values I want to teach my kid (besides PLEASE DON’T EAT DIRT), the thing I keep coming back to is this: I want him to believe that the strongest, bravest thing he can do is give a shit about other people—especially ones who aren’t like him at all.

Opinion | President Trump attending the first half of the Super Bowl cost taxpayers $4 million. Here's why DOGE must lay off a bunch of federal workers making $75,000 so that the government can live within its means.

Looking for government cost savings in NOAA/NWS is like looking at scaling bank on cheap dog food for your excellent family watch dog in a filthy rich household. It's the tiniest fraction of the budget and exceptionally cost effective.

Research universities are often the largest employers in their region. They are often the primary health care providers to communities. This funding shift will not only reduce US research leadership, it will put working people out of work and reduce healthcare access.

It's that time of year again. News media and other organizations are starting to talk about #LightningSafety. Tip 1: Adjust your plans so you're not outside when thunderstorms are around Tip 2: When thunder roars, go indoors! Tip 3: If you get caught outside, keep moving towards a safe place!
Meme from The Simpsons. In the top panel, a bus driver says "Don't make me tap the sign." In the bottom panel, he is tapping the sign that says "Stop promoting the lightning crouch".

I work for The Weather Company, which has a much used cellphone app for the weather, provides aviation weather services, and much more. We stand on the backs of giants, relying on information from the National Weather Service for what we do. Harming the NWS will harm us and many other businesses.

The DOGE investigation into NOAA/NWS computer systems seems to be limited to DEI activities, although it seems reasonable that climate change research may also be targeted. This article is good, and the headline is a bit misleading, BUT... www.cnn.com/2025/02/05/w... 1/9

By definition, numerical weather models require international data. The atmosphere knows no geopolitical boundaries: any model that begins and ends at its country’s border is unable to generate reliable predictions until after a weather system crosses its boundaries. Which defeats the purpose!

A President should not be publicly speculating about an accident while the recovery effort is still underway and the investigation has barely begun, when there has been no comment from the NTSB. Expressing grief for the loss and support for the investigation should be the entirety of the comments.

@samlmontano.bsky.social is absolutely right. I would add that the federal role in organizing & helping coordinate state/local actions also extends to other critical areas (e.g., public health). These mechanisms weren't invented because some bureaucrat wanted a job. They were needed & are essential.

Get outside every day no matter the weather. -40°, over 100°, windy, sleeting, or downpour. Dress for the conditions and embrace what nature brings that day. I find this to be so grounding in such a chaotic world.
