I just don't get it 🤔 I've been offered a Free Flu Vaccination on the NHS - URGENTLY. I.e. within 4 days of receiving the email. Because I am judged as being at high risk from the Flu. But the SARS virus that gave me blood clots, a Pulmonary Embolism AND Long Covid isn't as much of a threat to me?

The Covid wave in England is likely continuing to grow, and infection levels as of 27 September were probably between 1 in 249 and 1 in 218 people infected. This is the time to take sensible precautions against catching Covid in all indoor places. A (short) thread 🧵

With the Cargill report making the rounds, it's worth remembering that infection control wasn't just incompetent in 2020 - this is that special, sustained, durable kind of incompetence that comes along with the refusal to ever admit a mistake. Let infection control screw up once, and it's forever.

COVID-19 can still affect you, even if you’ve never had it or recovered without complications. Reinfection is possible, Long COVID can follow even a mild case, and an infection that feels manageable for one person can be much more serious for someone else. (...)
World Health Network graphic on a dark background with a bright pink bar across the top. WHN logo appears at top left and “World Health Network — Science for a safer, healthier world” at top right. Large headline reads: “5 reasons you should be concerned about COVID-19, even if you’ve never had it or you’ve recovered →” “COVID-19” is highlighted in pink. Below a divider line, text reads: “Just because you’ve never had COVID-19, or you’ve had it before and recovered, doesn’t mean you should stop being concerned about it.”World Health Network graphic listing the first two reasons to remain concerned about COVID-19. Text reads:
“1. You can still get sick.
Having never had COVID-19 doesn’t make you immune, and recovering from a previous infection doesn’t guarantee that you won’t get it again.
2. You can still develop Long COVID.
Even after a mild infection, some people experience lasting problems such as extreme tiredness, brain fog, headaches, breathing difficulties and sleep problems. You don’t necessarily have to be hospitalized before you can develop persistent symptoms. For some people, these symptoms can last for months or even years.”World Health Network graphic listing reasons three and four to remain concerned about COVID-19. Text reads:
“3. You can spread it to someone who is more vulnerable.
You might recover easily from COVID-19, but an older relative or someone with certain health conditions may not. What feels like a mild infection to you could become a serious illness for someone else.
4. Protecting yourself also protects the people around you.
You may be able to spread COVID-19 before you even realize you’re infected or before your symptoms become obvious. By the time you start feeling sick, you may have already passed it on to someone else. That’s why building safe habits matters.”World Health Network graphic presenting the fifth reason to remain concerned about COVID-19. Text reads:
“5. Your next infection may not affect you the same way.
If you had COVID-19 before and recovered without major problems, that doesn’t mean every future infection will be mild. Your previous experience is not a guarantee of how your body will respond the next time.

🚨 one in eight cancer cases worldwide may be caused by infections Millions of cancers are preventable, says Gary Clifford, the study’s senior author. “These are very actionable risk factors. We can test for them. We can vaccinate against them.” www.scientificamerican.com/article/one-... #medsky
An estimated one in eight cancer cases worldwide may be caused by infections—many of which are preventable with treatment or vaccines, according to new research.

In a study published on Monday in the Lancet Oncology, researchers estimate that infections were responsible for approximately 2.3 million cancer cases, or about 12 percent of diagnoses, worldwide in 2024.

Helicobacter pylori bacteria and human papillomavirus (HPV) combined accounted for more than an estimated 1.5 million cancer cases, the analysis found. An estimated 360,000 cancer cases were linked to hepatitis B infections, and 260,000 cases were caused by the Epstein-Barr virus.

Graphic shows a series of pie charts, each representing one type of cancer, scaled according to how many new cases of that cancer were diagnosed in 2024. Colored areas of the pie charts indicate how many of those cases were associated with infections, with each infection shown in a different color.

"COVID-19 May Quietly Weaken Bones Long After Recovery" Researchers warn COVID-19 may have effects beyond the lungs, heart and immune system. A new review suggests infection may cause lasting bone damage, increasing the risk of weaker bones, fractures and impaired bone repair—even after recovery.
An image displays a medical news article headline paired with detailed anatomical illustrations regarding COVID-19.
Key Visual Elements
•	Header: Features the blue "Thailand Medical News" logo with a small red cross symbol.
•	Headline: Large, prominent red text reads "COVID-19 May Quietly Weaken Bones Long After Recovery."
•	Article Text: A brief excerpt outlines a scientific review warning that the virus can trigger long-lasting damage to the skeleton, increasing fracture risks even after recovery.
•	Anatomical Imagery:
o	A 3D rendering of a coronavirus particle stands next to a transparent view of a human hip joint and pelvic bone structure.
o	Two circular insets compare bone density. The left circle depicts healthy, dense bone matrix structure, while the right circle shows significantly thinned, porous bone matrix representing bone loss.
