I have Grandkids - so no longer use Airport Departure Lounges. Natural History has been the unbroken story of my life. Watching wildlife, mostly under Dorset skies. Wrens; Greenfinches; Little Owls; Raptors & Adders are a preoccupation.

The Jays are coming into the garden everyday at the moment. I see them overfly the cottage checking to see if the coast is clear - if they decide it is, they come right up to the window. #Corvids #Jays

Mellow fruitfulness? Walking along this beautiful Dorset lane we could smell it from 30 yds - the Stinkhorn, in all it's autumnal glory. Interesting to see how it had forced itself into the daylight, pushing the soil aside. The surrounding bushes were filled with small insects & Long-tailed tits. 🍄

The Corvid roosts are getting larger every evening here at the moment. There are many restless fly pasts as the smaller groups coalesce. Here's one of them from sunset yesterday. Rather a chill in the air. It felt like Winter's Eve. #Corvids #AutumnRoosting

Stonechats - the Great Observers. Imagine the events in human history that the 'chat has observed over the course of time. Always watching from the best vantage point at the side of the track: Roman legions, the arrival of the Normans, the English Civil war - all noted with due impartiality.

Jays. Acorns are scarce this year & in many cases the trees that have them only have the tiniest of seeds. I've gathered some Beech mast - which is plentiful. Will they take these instead? As seen below, green acorns are the apple of their eye and are foraged preferentially. @markavery.bsky.social
