specificity is very important in nonfiction writing and I think people confuse that with detail or, god forbid, length. Imagine if you walked into a museum and they said "we have exhibits" Like what kinds of exhibits??

"Do people laugh?" asked earnestly is actually an unintentional self-own in many ways. Doug Walker-esque in a way, like when he made Lindsay Ellis criticize Moulin Rouge! by saying "they never explain what love is."

Let’s be real they’re using “furry” as a visibly queer subculture as a stand-in for queerness at large. Their goal has been to remove queer people from public life, and they’re testing different vectors to do so. Hence the all caps “MENTALLY ILL,” which is how they want to reclassify all queers

Like the great recession was very long and painful - much longer than anyone thought it would be in fact - but like 6 years later we were mostly out of. We're now on like year 15 of e.g. "it's impossible to afford family-sized housing in SF, LA, NYC, Boston, etc" and it gets worse every year

Maybe the reason the economic vibes are so off isn't that things are *worse* than the great recession but because back then we all thought the pain was temporary, whereas the things that are wrong with the economy today have all been getting worse for a long time and show no signs of improving

The U.S. had friends all over the world and did at least some good through its mighty academic, scientific and cultural institutions and through its powerful and often great media. All this, they have damaged or broken. Even the country's natural beauty and wealth, they are defiling.

A key component of the Cambridge Analytica outrage was your friends subjecting you to data theft without your consent or knowledge. Facebook is running the same playbook on your text messages. Even if you’re not on Meta properties, they’re ingesting your interactions.
Aten installed Muse on both his iPhone and a Mac mini that he uses to test out various Al agents and tech. It took Meta a single day to begin "helpfully" pitching article ideas based on texts he'd sent to a podcast co-host.
When he asked Muse how it got the information, it said that it read banners from incoming texts. But that's not true, either.
After doing a little digging, Aten says Muse synced 187,000 lines from his Messages database, despite Full Disk Access being Off.Unless Aten is the most popular person on the face of the planet, I sincerely doubt he'd gotten 187,000 lines of text in roughly 24 hours. What happened is that, without permission, Muse went into the app and downloaded the information.
He had not given Muse permission to access Messages, and full disk access was not enabled. It just went ahead and uploaded those texts anyway.
Muse can take "unexpected actions" indeed.

The formatting of this Beckett quote does still represent resilience and determination, just of a very different sort.
A neon light art piece of Samuel Beckett's famous quote "I can't go on. I'll go on" but spaced - it would seem inadvertently- so that it reads "I can't goon. I'll goon".

Every college in this country decided that expelling and/or sending the police to beat the shit out of their own students for the crime of being opposed to genocide was their top priority. That and giving Trump complete control of what they teach. Contrast that with how they treat rapists.

Crucially these contractors are not hired to filter out offensive content. They are hired to report whether Copilot successfully made a good AI image. So if the request is, make this person's breasts larger, they have to review based on whether it did or not. Insane www.404media.co/humans-readi...
These contractors are not being hired to flag or vet offensive or inappropriate content. They are being paid to review the quality of Copilot’s output, including in these cases of sexual imagery.
“Who is writing these prompts and who is deciding that basically generating porn is what Copilot is now focused on? It’s hard to take things seriously when my focus has to be what model generated the appropriate bust size or which middle aged woman was put in the appropriate sexually suggestive position,” one contractor said in the thread.

There’s something worth dwelling on that the exploitative data classifying and labeling human labor apparatus that tech companies created in the global majority to moderate harmful content was so easily repurposed to facilitate the generation of harmful content. What is trust and safety really?
