The Disney renaissance movies used to look different. They were planned to be printed on 35 mm film -- that's how they were first released. Modern editions skip that last step in the process. It was a highly developed, overlooked craft, as we explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/disneys-fi...

Also just to be very clear: the AfD have normalised and mainstreamed support for the far-right, but as @okwonga.bsky.social points out, they are the face of a broader movement. At the AfD rally last Sunday, there were many families who brought their kids, standing alongside people with Nazi tattoos.

1/ Doomism means saying it's too late and nothing can be done. It doesn't mean saying things are bad. One recent high profile paper in @pnas.org treats conflates this. Whilst another paper in the British Journal of Psychology treats naming who funded climate delay as conspiracism. A thread 🧵

Japanese officials have coined an entirely new word to signify the dangerous heat of #ClimateChange. It's "kokushobi," which means "cruel heat day." This coinage is but a drop of the coming shower of cultural changes that climate change will force upon us. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/23/w...
The term got its first use on Tuesday, when three cities in central Japan recorded 40-degree temperatures, a first for the country this year. Officials urged people to stay indoors, use air-conditioning
and drink water. There were signs that many people had heeded the warnings, as popular sites such as Osaka Castle and Kyoto's Kiyomizu Temple
saw smaller crowds than usual on Tuesday. "Numbers are difficult to understand because people perceive them differently. By giving it the name 'cruel heat day,' people will understand it better just by hearing it, and they'll feel that today is dangerous," said Taro Kawasato, the assistant director of the Japan
Meteorological Agency's climate prediction division.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: two friends are playing cards. There is a birdcage hanging behind them, just peaking out of frame. Friend 1 asks, “does your bird talk?” To which friend 2 replies, “Please… don’t.” Panel 2: friend 2 continues, head in hand, “he’s on this alpha male influencer thing right now.” Behind him, the bird - posed and wearing sunglasses and a leather jacket - is leaning forward on a tiny easy chair in his enclosure. Panel 3: with his hands clasped, easing back into his chair, the bird says, “stops eating seeds. Focus on your net worth.”

First Queen clean artwork by Yoshitaka Amano used on the cover of the Sharp X68000 and NEC PC-98 releases in Japan. Image depicts a warrior with an intricate armor and a red and yellow cape riding a white horse also with intricate ornaments, dashing against a falling tribal warrior whose shield came out flying. There's a huge battle behind them where several other warriors can be seen as well as several lances. The overall scene has a warm tone with shades of beige, brown, orange, and yellow mixing among each other.
