There also must be an independent investigation, led by the NYS Attorney General, to ensure accountability for this shooting. I’m also calling for a thorough review of NYPD actions yesterday. It is the job of the NYPD to preserve safety and peace, not to facilitate ICE detentions and deportations.

I pointed out that people thought Roe v. Wade was settled law of the land, had organized their lives around it. Overturning Roe also would have consequences.

Obergefell, he said, was different.

"After Obergefell, people of the same sex got married and entered into contracts … it was much more concrete," he said. "Whereas with Roe, the argument was made that it had an effect on people's ideas, women's ideas about the kind of society that they were going to live in, that this would have an effect on the society. It was much more abstract than what would've been involved had we been asked to overrule Obergefell."

32 states permit child marriage. More states allow child marriage and minors to drink alcohol than those that allow access to hormones prescribed by their doctor with the support of their parents. None of it is logical and it's entirely based on moral panic.
