One of Hal's greatest strengths as a comic character was that he was allowed to look like a moron. it was legit awesome to think of this idiot with the power of a god trying to save the world

Hal Jordan is flying through the sky and monologuing about how his best friend is paralyzed after a car accident caused by Hal's drunk driving.

He sees a bright yellow sign and then blames that inanimate object for "being too close to the road", instead of, you know, the guy who was drunk behind the wheel.

He say "None of this was my fault... it was the sign! And now... I've got the power to do something about.--" while flying headlong into the sign.
