The Traditional Third Person Action Game basically only has gameplay as a formality, and the average JRPG released since the 2010s is made for people who just mash Attack and never engage with the game beyond it. Gameplay can never be used in interesting ways anymore lol.

Games are seen as nothing but toys for escapism and feel-good fantasy, it's why most major releases have 0 friction and difficulty anymore, every game is easier, more sanded-down, because games aren't treated as art themselves, they can have evocative stories but never mechanics.
