Gender is a construct. All violence is connected. I’m not into following heaps of people. It’s not you, it’s definitely me.

Thinking some thoughts about how people can spend more effort sympathising with a man who *might* have lost *some* access to his kids than with a woman who actually did have her kids stolen for four entire years

If you’re against all this anti trans bullshit, you need to speak out. Do it for the kids. So many trans kids frightened right now. Some of them will have loving families, some will not. I think they need to hear your voices. I think that’s important. Just a challenge x

I think probably around five or so years ago, I started thinking how ridiculous it is that a baby comes out of the womb, and its entire life is then predicated on its genitals, essentially. It’s just creepy and weird and yet we all carry on as if it’s a completely normal thing to do.

I started watching MAFS + stopped when I saw abusive behaviours producers were allowing. Today, one of the women told me that she’s been watching it with her teen girl, and they sit and discuss the abusive behaviours, what to look out for, red flags etc. Adrian? Her words: that was DV 101.

Lefties, libs. And whatever the equivalent is for ppl politically opp to that. Hate those terms. All of them. Just use Fascists And Humanists. A bit binary? I guess those who swim in the “reasonable” middle might have to start taking a bit more of a position eh.

I know logic doesn't explain the anti-trans bigotry because that is not how hatred works, but it feels so bizarre to have been a cis woman for 50 years and to have lived in constant low-level fear of male violence for my entire life and I'm supposed to be turning all that fear onto... other women?

For those interested. For those who have wondered exactly what the intensive work I do, looks like. And if it is safe.
Kia Ora community.
We are making a specific application to get funding for my salary - at the moment, we have some wonderful regular donors to that but we have had a number of people had to drop off because their circumstances have changed.
So there’s a large gap.

Anyway, I had asked my professional supervisor to give some specific feedback on the safety of my work. I am not specifically academically qualified to do this work - I am not a Counsellor, a therapist, or a social worker. I don’t claim to be, and I am very careful to make sure that I don’t overstep those boundaries. After 12 years of doing this, I know my lane.

But what is that lane, you may well ask.

I often talk about the intensive work I do with the aunties whānau women. But what does that look like?

I would like to share with you what she said so that you may better understand what this work of mine actually looks like.

“Since August 2017 I have been supervising Jackie Clark’s work under the auspices of The Aunties Board of Trustees.
Jackie’s ongoing contribution to keeping safe the women she works with involves treading a fine compassionate line along the interface between dependency (financial and emotional) and growth towards self-responsibility and dignified assertiveness.
One of Jackie’s difficult triaging decisions hinges around this assessment of each woman. And her willingness to grow and change her life.
The main work is always to do with Psycho-Education, building boundaries, assertiveness and Identity formation beyond victimhood.
This transformation involves a carefully titrated mixture of trust and vulnerability along with skilfully delivered challenges and resources to develop self-agency, to stand up for themselves and their children.
Alongside of this, Jackie’s work and careful focus has been instrumental in assisting most of the women to begin Counselling for childhood trauma. This of course has the powerful knock on effect of empowering both self awareness and safer parenting.
This ongoing process raises self-esteem, self-agency, and safer parenting practices.
With a spin off for healthier relationships for the next generations.
In my view, this work is outstanding in keeping women safe.”
