there are moral arguments against the death penalty in its ideal form but in real life you never need to get there. the prior question is "can the state be trusted to end the life only of the rightly convicted without torture?" and the answer is no

Discworld QOTD, from Sourcery
Discworld meme. On the left is Death, a skeleton with glowing blue eye sockets wearing a black robe. Death is petting a small kitten.

On the right is the text of the quote.

“I meant,” said Ipslore bitterly, “what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?’

Death thought about it.

CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.

Enormous skill issue. I would simply have made the precious baby comfortable in my home. Give churu.
In 2016, Paola Nogales-Ascarrunz, a biologist and National Geographic Explorer working in Bolivia, received a call from a local wildlife sanctuary that had just been given what they described as "a weird cat." It came from a local man who found it as a kitten on a road near a
forest. The man took the animal home, believing it to be a domestic breed. But after about a year of living with the clearly wild animal, he realized it would be better off at a sanctuary.

A few pics from a WV weekend.
A woman in an American flag print dress sits on the edge of a pier under a West Virginia state flag. She is wearing sunglasses and taking a picture with her cell phone.Three bouquets of wildflowers sit on a cluttered kitchen table. There are Black-Eyed Susans, Purple Cone Flowers, Butterfly Weed, Chicory, Queen Anne’s Lace and more. The bouquets are wild and magnificent.A peaceful lake surrounded by trees. The cool blue of the sky is reflected in the water.Firecrackers explode with sparks on the edge of a small wooden pier. A man in a blue shirt is flinching away from the conflagration.

For the people saying critics of Democrats on immigration from the left don’t have an alternative, I always say “go look at the Statue of Liberty, that’s our immigration policy.”
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
