Conservatives think they are way more unified internationally than they are. It's mostly internal bunches of reactionary factions that will split split split as soon as it touches another country.

It's kind of funny to think that conservatives from one country will totally shit on a conservative from another country as long as it's a good media promo.

I'd love to know how this bug could happen. Is rendering arms different because they move around a lot, so could need their own render pipeline?

Playing a game with a weird graphic glitch. Some NPCs don't have arms but can still swing a machete. It warns at the start that it is not compatible with my graphics card but if that is the reason then the effects are tiny & weird. Nothing big has happened.

We need to rephrase the whole discussion in terms of hazardous products, instead of "minds". And then we need to make sure that there's liability. A model hacks someone? Put a C-suite guy in jail. A model produces sexual harassment material? Put a C-suite guy in jail. Watch how fast things get safe

Busan has a new resident named Bukangi, a shark who started chilling in the canals near the train station a couple weeks ago. The city has been trying all sorts of schemes to gently lead her back to the ocean but she foils every attempt and swims back and forth being admired by crowds of fans.

Even with programming it largely sucks the joy out of it. It removes the fun part yet gives you more of the annoying part. I used it for a while then stopped because it was just depressing. Luckily I don't have a boss to tell me otherwise.

In photography you really just wanna make sure that the cat is properly exposed. Photo from my collection no info/date.
Black and white photo of a light skinned man wearing a plaid sports coach and watch in a skinny dark colored tie. He is looking down at a long-haired grey kitten that he cradles in his hands. The photo seems to be somewhat under exposed because the man’s skin tone is blown out, but the kitten looks perfect.

Breaking news: The Earth is getting rounder agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...
INBOX:
Earth’s poles are rising by 0.5 to 1 millimeters per year, slowly un-squashing our planet’s slightly flattened, jelly-donut-like shape, according to a new study. Linking satellite measurements of changing altitude across Earth’s surface from 1997 to 2015 to the planet’s shape, researchers found that the rounding effect also seems to be accelerating over time, with the poles rising an extra 0.4 millimeters per year faster every decade. Though our planet seems solid, the Earth’s interior acts more like an extremely slow-flowing liquid, warping over time under forces like the weight of ice sheets and oceans. Currently, our planet bulges out a little around the equator. But as ice sheets melt and reduce the force acting on the Earth at the poles, the equator is gradually cinching in as the poles push upwards, molding our planet into a more spherical shape. [JGR Solid Earth study]

There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...
But there’s also something about truth to pain. We talk a lot about truth to power, but I think it’s actually a lot harder to speak truth to pain. I say that as someone who went to medical school, realizing that in a lot of our politics right now, we’ve got to get a lot better at speaking truth to pain if we’re going to get through some of these challenges that we have.

What does “truth to pain” mean?

It’s one thing to look power in the eye and say: You’re wrong about this. But there’s a way in which pain is very difficult to reason with. Because when somebody is in their pain, they’re in their trauma. They see that pain, and they may not see what’s causing it.

I remember just very explicitly being in a trauma ward with a gunshot wound patient and watching this big guy with his hand on his gunshot wound. All the folks are trying to pull his hand off his pain, that point of his gunshot wound, this clear vulnerability.

And this emergency room doctor had the presence of mind to be like: Everyone, stop. And she looks him in the eyes, and she’s like: I get that really hurts, and I’m so sorry that you’re here. You don’t want to be here. We don’t want you to be here. But if you don’t let us fix this, you could die. So I’m going to take your hand, and I’m going to move it off, OK? Because I need to get there so that you can live.

She was speaking truth to pain. He understands he’s at the hospital, he needs care, but he also doesn’t want anybody to touch the wound. Which is a natural thing. And I think it is a really great metaphor for how we think about a lot of these challenges we talked about today.
