Great to see bike network “infill,” upgrades happening across the city. Here is the new improvements to the old York Street door zone lane, between Adams and Old Fulton.

Faster buses are coming to Flatbush Avenue! The Mamdani administration announced today construction will resume at the end of the month to deliver protected, center-running bus lanes from Livingston Street to Grand Army Plaza. This will be a transformative upgrade for the corridor.

Today is Trans Day of Visibility.
Trans, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming people have always been here — from the hijra of India to the Diné nádleehi to the leaders who built the modern LGBTQIA+ movement here in New York.
Your existence is not up for debate. Your lives are not a political issue.
We're fighting for a city where every trans New Yorker can live openly, safely, and with joy.

Iftar, Day 19
For Mahmoud Khalll, this past year has been marked by profound hardship-and by profound courage.
A year ago, Mahmoud was walking home through our city after sharing an iftar with his wife Noor when he was detained by federal agents, flown to Louisiana, and then held in an ICE facility for months. In that time, he was forced to miss the birth of his first child. All of this for exercising his First Amendment rights in protesting the ongoing genocide in Palestine.
And yet, even in the face of that cruelty, there has also been beauty. New Yorkers raising their voices in solidarity. A city refusing to look away. Mahmoud won his freedom, and a father was finally reunited with his child.
Last night, as we marked the one year anniversary of his detention, Rama and I were honored to welcome Mahmoud, Noor, and their son Deen to Gracie Mansion to break our fast together.
Mahmoud is a New Yorker, and he belongs in New York City.In a dining room, five people eat, chat and smile around a table of food.

The 14th Street busway has been an unmitigated success: bus speeds + ridership are 📈, crashes are 📉. But the street itself hasn't changed much. NYC DOT is planning world-class upgrades supporting fast buses & public spaces. Weigh in online or in person, 3/25. More here: www.nyc.gov/html/dot/htm...

NYC DOT has brought pedestrian fatalities to their lowest levels. We are aware that our pedestrian model is based on a simple formula, which is why the agency worked with MIT on this study. We'll be continuing to work with MIT to build a more comprehensive model for predicting pedestrian activity.

Speed governors are part of a true safe systems approach. We’ve seen the most dangerous drivers continue driving—even after licenses are suspended. This tool isn’t focused on punishment, but simply preventing these drivers from speeding in the first place. empire.streetsblog.org/state-of-the...

The new street design for Court Street in Brooklyn, where I live, continues to be finished. Today, painting new lane. It’s GREAT! ✅ no more speeders ✅ car & bike traffic moves smoothly ✅ bikes in lane, not intermixed into cars & vice versa ✅ no double parkers ✅ looks nicer

As part of NYC DOT's quarterly Vision Zero update, we highlighted a few recent street redesigns that brought major safety gains. On Schermerhorn St, pedestrian injuries dropped 31% while bike ridership grew 30%. As we've seen all over, bike lanes make streets safer for pedestrians, too.
