#vss365 The creature washed ashore. It had cute tentacles, tiny rows of teeth and baby #hurricane clouds hovering over head. The natives brought it to the local fundi, who gave it a bone rattle. He agreed to raise it as his own, but they did not ask what price they would have to pay.

For #PoetsOfDoom #prompt #Sky Thanks to host @daveashleypoet.bsky.social and Steve 🐧
All night the sky held it's violet mouth shut.
Then amber worried open the edge,
silver thinning into cornflower blue.
A blackbird crossed, then another,
their wings briefly black against the light.
By breakfast, the roofs daubed bronze,
night left soundless.

A not-so-long-ago quarrel and the fact that @thebrokenspine.co.uk is looking for #PoemsAbout #Rot made me write an experimental #haibun. Happy Friday! Cheers!
Rot in Hell

Through the glassiness of suburban stars, I stretch out my hand to tuck them in. With each one, the root of red bleeds as if the devil's a painter. I splay my fingers like paintbrush bristles and sway them across the horizon. They tickle the gates. Suddenly, I become the black ink of the galactic canvas amid the last traces of fiery red. At once, I can hear the shouts of my family and the screams of the doomed.

I left unsaid

dead letter

i wash the dishes
in the dark

because i know
where everything is.

the tap.
the soap.
the chipped glass
you always said
to throw away.

remember when
you said
nothing mattered
and i said nothing.

it does.

the glass slips.
i hear it break
somewhere in the sink.

for a while
i leave my hands
where they are.

the tap keeps running.

i am quiet.

you are far away.

or whatever
you are.

eventually
i put my hand
back in the water.
