Honestly Elpis taught us that nobody in Amaurot cares about the rules and nobody follows them unless they want to. We were shown a rigid society in Shadowbringers and then shown the blatant disregard for that rigidity in Endwalker. Lots of interesting things about Amaurot without making them bigots.

I think a lot of the people doing this are trying to hide their shitty opinions behind claims that it's meant to discourage trans men from medical transition. It's very much not. It's meant to reassure the same people they hate.

It is actually really important for trans people to remember that other trans people can be assholes, because I think we get ourselves stuck on this idea that every trans person is an expert on transness and they must be speaking the truth, and often neither of those things are true.

Watching the newer seasons of GBBO is such a different experience because Paul Hollywood has actually gotten, dare I say it, quite nice to the bakers? And not even just nice, but encouraging. It's like everyone called him an asshole and he took it seriously.

I became obsessed with Mara Jade, and I think that was probably my earliest big hint that I was not quite the cishet girl I thought I was. Of course I didn't understand that and ignored it for about 18 more years. Looking back, I get to have the fun "ohhhhhhhh" moment we all love so much.

I didn't read it when it was brand new (mostly because I was 5 years old) but I did start reading Star Wars novels at around 9. IIRC I got to this one in my Junior High years, so probably between 11-13, and it was formative to say the least.
