As exciting as a lucky dice roll can be in a story-heavy game, they often feel like a vestigial holdover from TTRPGs, where the abstraction of dice for social/story checks is necessary to keep events flowing forward.
There also isn't savescumming in TTRPGs. Players have to adapt to a bad roll...
