Open Source hot take: A software project is allowed to be *done*. Not everything needs to add features or rewrite things. You can just be happy with functionality and focus on just maintainance. "Maintenance mode" is not always bad but can just show a mature product.

reverse engineering and decompilation, is basically just refactoring on ultra hard mode or conversely, refactoring is just reverse engineering your own code, figuring out what it's actually doing and making clearer names and such.

The things our designer does sometimes hurt to look at. Proper paddings and spacing? Nah, just glue elements right to the borders and the title. Who cares about Gestalt theory. But the company hired me as a software dev and not as a designer, so I have to implement these works of art.
