A “witch-hunt” is under way in Niger, where people have been arrested by the military for homosexuality following the introduction of a new anti-LGBTQ+ penal code earlier this year. The United States gives millions of dollars worth of military aid to Niger, the latest being in May of this year.

Justices Gorsuch, Sotomayor, and Jackson concur in Hunter v. US to get pretty close to saying that plea bargaining is unconstitutional. Worth a read.
In our times, the jury trial has given way to a conveyor
belt of plea bargains. At least some responsibility for that
development lies with this Court. When confronted with
coercive prosecutorial tactics designed to induce defendants
to take plea deals, the Court has often condoned those prac-
tices or let them pass in silence.
Today, the Court begins to correct course. It rules that
prosecutors may not always leverage their plea-bargaining
power to induce a defendant to forego the right to contest
his sentence on appeal. I agree and write separately to out-
line how we got here and some of the work still ahead.

Do people really associate "waste, fraud, and abuse" with DOGE now, as you said in reference to Rob Sand? Waste, fraud, and abuse have long been the targets of government auditors here and abroad, especially IGs and the GAO. I'd be very disheartened if DOGE is people's first association.

I love the idea of @usafacts.org, but it's a shame they're giving the sort of elementary explanations that leave far too much out. That sort of oversimplification is why so many Americans insist the founding fathers did no wrong, and is a key contributor to the persistent racism, transphobia, etc.

I'm one of the people who will not be receiving my usual SNAP Food Stamps Benefits for the upcoming month of November 2025, and Massachusetts just confirmed today that they will not be paying even a partial amount to those of us who are state residents either.
Screenshot of a text message alert from the Massachusetts (MA) Department Of Transitional Assistance's (DTA) Centralized Office, which administers the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Food Stamps Benefits Program, timestamped received on 1:35pm EST on Monday, October 27th, 2025, which states the following:

"[DTAMSG]: President Trump is currently choosing to not issue November SNAP benefits that help you and many families put food on the table. You also may have your benefits further cut starting in November because of changes Congressional Republicans and President Trump enacted in the "One Big Beautiful Bill". Learn more and check back for updates at 'https://mass.gov/dta' Text Opt Out to end messages."

The key section featured here reads as follows:

"QUESTION: Can Massachusetts use state funds to cover the federal gaps?

ANSWER: SNAP brings in more than $210 million dollars monthly in federal funding. The state budget cannot absorb even one month of federal failure. Massachusetts is working closely with community-based partners to support residents who are impacted by the Trump Administration's decision to withhold SNAP benefits, including through state-funded resources such as food banks, Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) benefits, and state-funded cash benefits like Temporary Aid To Families With Dependant Childre  (TAFDC) and Emergency Aid To The Elderly, Disabled, & Children (EAEDC)."

JUST IN: Harvard won summary judgment against the Trump administration with the court finding that the admin violated Harvard's 1st amend. rights. The court has vacated the funding freeze orders and termination letters and issued a permanent injunction. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
[cite_start]A screenshot of the first page of a court document from the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts[cite: 3]. [cite_start]The document is titled "MEMORANDUM AND ORDER" [cite: 43] [cite_start]and was filed on September 3, 2025[cite: 1].

The document lists two related civil actions:
* [cite_start]**Civil Action No. 25-cv-11048-ADB**: President and Fellows of Harvard College, et al., Plaintiffs, v. United States Department of Health and Human Services, et al., Defendants[cite: 4, 5, 14, 17, 21].
* [cite_start]**Civil Action No. 25-cv-10910-ADB**: American Association of University Professors - Harvard Chapter, et al., Plaintiffs, v. United States Department of Justice, et al., Defendants[cite: 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 36].

[cite_start]The order is from Judge Burroughs, D.J.[cite: 44]. [cite_start]The text begins by identifying the plaintiffs in the consolidated cases[cite: 45].A screenshot of pages 81 and 82 from a court order, detailing the judge's rulings and the relief granted.

**Rulings:**
* **For Harvard's case:** The court grants Harvard's motion for summary judgment on several counts, including violations of the First Amendment and Title VI. It grants in part Harvard's motion regarding the "Freeze Orders" and grants in part the defendants' motion regarding the "Termination Letters," citing a lack of jurisdiction.
* **For the Organizational Plaintiffs' case:** The court grants the plaintiffs' motion for summary judgment on their First Amendment claims and denies the defendants' cross-motion on several counts. The ruling on the "Freeze Orders" and "Termination Letters" mirrors the one in Harvard's case.

**Ordered Relief:**
1. The court vacates and sets aside the Freeze Orders as arbitrary and capricious.
2. The court vacates and sets aside the Freeze Orders and Termination Letters as violations of the First Amendment.
3. The court vacates and sets aside the Termination Letters as violations of Title VI.
4. The court permanently enjoins the defendants from implementing the Freeze Orders, Termination Letters, and their unconstitutional conditions.
