Very excited to announce our new Sex Hormones and Hormone Therapy collection at Communications Medicine! HRT is an extremely impactful intervention and yet research into best practices is lacking, and treatment so often relies on anecdote and individual clinicians.
COMMUNICATIONS MEDICINE
Call for papers: Sex Hormones and Hormone Therapy Across Life Course
- This Collection aims to expand our understanding of the biology, epidemiology, and clinical impact of sex hormones and hormone replacement therapy, improving patient well-being and support. We welcome the submission of all papers relevant to Sex Hormones and Hormone Therapy, including original research articles and Reviews.
- Open Access journal from Nature Portfolio, publishing high-quality research, reviews and commentary across all clinical, translational, and public health research fields.

Neutrino Project xkcd.com/3249/
Comic. [Huge pool, with two people walking on the edge together, one jumping off a diving board, and others playing with a beach ball inside the pool as two people in the center of the pool talk.] PERSON 1 with ponytail: How much trouble do you think we’ll be in when they find out we used the Neutrino Project grant money to throw a huge pool party instead? PERSON 2: We could argue that we *did* build a neutrino detector. There’s a lot of water here. A solar neutrino will probably interact with it at *some* point. Person 1: ...Wait. Actually, if we got some photomultiplier tubes... [caption] How The Neutrino Detector Was Invented

Well. This is startling. “At least one of the NIH’s 27 institutes and centres has lost so many GMSs that it has asked early-career researchers, including postdocs and graduate students, who work in the NIH’s own labs to consider working temporarily as a GMS on a volunteer basis”

It's looking increasingly like these guys thought that if they could wreak more death and destruction than the other side then they would be respected as strong powerful men and they would "win" and that would make them big important heroes. Very possibly they had no rationale deeper than that.

The idea that humans sit atop an evolutionary hierarchy dates back to 1866, when a scientist drew the first tree of life with "Man" at the top. This inaccurate view still shapes how we think of the animal world, despite decades of genomic evidence proving evolution has no hierarchy. buff.ly/055hdSo

No animal alive today is ‘primitive’ – why are so many still labeled that way?
All species alive today, from chimpanzees to bacteria, are cousins that each have equally long lineages, rather than ancestors or descendants of one another.

It is next to impossible to rationally assess the threat environment. People do not test, and mingle even when symptomatic. In addition, a good part of transmission is asymptomatic. Best approximations of infection risk can be made based on wastewater testing, where available, and indoor air quality
