Ways to prevent dangerous street takeovers or "sideshows" include reducing lanes, building protected intersections, and adding modal filters.

Excellent article that hopefully raises awareness of several critical points. But why do we keep doing this? Claim: Roadway deaths have only increased since we adopted a Vision Zero Action Plan in 2022. Evidence: Fatalities trending up, mostly prior to 2022. Not pictured: What happened 2024-2026

Closing one side of the KVB Bridge sidewalk (while no work is being done) adds 7x as much delay for a pedestrian as no right on red adds for a motorist. Placing the closure sign halfway across the six-lane bridge makes that 19x as much delay for a pedestrian as no RTOR adds for a motorist.
A "sidewalk closed" sign 1100' into a 2200' long bridge with six lanes of traffic and no crosswalks.

The federal ATIIP grant to fund the Spokes project was for $9 million. CHYM has already generated $168 million in revenue, significantly more than projected. It's time to accept that the federal money isn't coming and do this ourselves.

More people than cars on the Woodland Street bridge at rush hour this morning. The fact that we just repaved and restriped this bridge to replicate the same absurd allocation of right-of-way is ridiculous.
Several people walking, two people bicycling, and no one driving on a wide, overbuilt, 4-lane road

VZAC learned Tuesday from MNPD, that even if Ben called to report this collision, MNPD would not take a record. TN State law defines a crash as requiring $50+ in damages. Thus, this goes unreported. MNPD also shared that there have been 50 RTOR crashes since 2025. How many more were not reported?

I'm really tired of the "this wasn't preventable" dialogue because the driver is said to have had a medical episode. 1) The investigation is still ongoing and the cause hasn't been determined 2) If the 4th Ave intersection was closed, the driver would have been elsewhere with a lot less ped traffic

According to NDOT we have 530 miles of bikeways. They claim 55% are “low stress”. That would be about 290 miles or 190 not counting greenways. They consider plastic sticks as low stress. I suggest they ride a bike in Nashville more often.

Concrete makes bike lanes look and feel like an integral part of the street, like they're supposed to be there. Flex posts make them look like an afterthought. Once again, we will get far more support by doing things right than by doing them halfway. Good infrastructure speaks for itself.

A $100 post isn't $100 when you add labor, truck rolls, and fuel to replace it every 6 months. We’re subsidizing cheap lanes with an infinite maintenance loop. Has anyone auditing the 10-year burn rate of plastic vs. the "one-and-done" of precast concrete that every other major city is using? 2/2
