Maybe I’m just in a particularly tough emotional phase. My oldest takes drivers ed next week. I just don’t want one more generation knowing that one of their friends will die in a traffic accident before they can even vote. I’d really like for us to fix this for them.

Interesting quote given that Finance came before Council and insisted this was a great deal for Nashville. The mayor’s office and finance lobbied for this bill. Our hands were tied by them.
“We are in an environment where the state is very often making decisions about cities that cities are not asking for themselves,” O’Connell told reporters. “In that environment, we look to do the very best we can for Nashvillians given the ways in which our hands are tied.”

It will never cease to amaze me that the “Christians” in charge find the death penalty acceptable. There. Is. No. Way. To. Humanely. Kill. Someone. Against. Their. Wishes. To quote someone intimately familiar with state-sanctioned executions: “O Liberty, how many crimes are committed in thy name!”

We have officially made it thru the driest September on record (and 2nd hottest). BNA only recorded a Trace of rain during the entire month - something that has only happened one other time (October 1963). Severe Drought now covers all of Davidson and Cheatham, with Moderate Drought elsewhere.

While we are all celebrating new Amtrak trains here in the PNW, let us remember those who suffer from a lack of access to passenger rail 🙏 Some logical low-hanging fruit for new Amtrak lines:
Lines drawn from Saint Louis to Indianapolis and from Nashville to Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Little Rock Lines drawn from Flagstaff to Phoenix and from Denver to El Paso via Albuquerque

It's becoming increasingly likely that we stay dry the remainder of the month. If this holds, not only would it be the driest September on record, but it would also tie our driest month all-time. October of 1963 is the only other month with only a Trace of rainfall recorded.

Bollards are pulled up on Belmont (because it’s getting replaced in the next few weeks). Parking & bike lanes will flip post-repaving. In the meantime, y’all be safe out there. People have been frequently passing cars on the right using bike+parking lane. Speeding is up. Wider road = worse driving.

I wonder how much housing we’d have built if we’d spent as much time on it as we spent worrying about site optics for a Super Bowl. I wonder how much housing we’ll now not get any time soon because as the war rages on & rates continue to climb, it’s too $$ to build & buy. Missing windows matters.

We’ve officially hit 100°, which now breaks the daily record high of 99°. Breaking a record feels like there should be some sense of accomplishment behind it, which I feel absolutely none of. This is just three days from the latest triple digit reading on record, September 21, 2022.

I am one of the 74,905. The Charter & its amendments are approved by the people of Nashville. If the people of Nashville think a change is in our interest, they’re within their right to ask for that. Sitting in a seat on Tuesday nights doesn’t give me any special rights to kill voter initiatives.

We are at 21 consecutive days of no measurable rainfall at BNA. While some have gotten lucky with rain in the past couple of weeks, most have been quite dry. The latest Drought Monitor reflects that, with everywhere at least Abnormally Dry, some returning to a Moderate Drought.
