As someone who has not & hopefully never will own a car in the USA, mass car ownership is a kind of brain poisoning that is hard to describe. A subconscious need for the world to reshape itself around an absurdly wasteful way to get around, without any imagination for alternatives.

I think we’re losing the plot with command line software. The goal isn’t to recreate a GUI with a blocky terminal aesthetic, it’s to embrace the “universal interface” of text streams.

It’s worse than this. Having been in the room with many of them (long ago, before I knew they were psychopaths), the tycoons who are left running the industry have an active contempt for ordinary people, including their own workers. They actively want to oppress, control and punish them.

I wish people would stop looking at AI as an in-group shibboleth and instead as a social and political problem to be solved. Yes, slurping up everyone’s intellectual property was evil, so what do we do about it now? Call it even after the lawsuits work themselves out? Nationalize the training data?

It’s already one. There is more open corruption in Trump’s America than I experienced in the most corrupt governments in Nigeria’s history.

Please tell me that restaurants and food trucks that use AI-generated pictures of food aren’t doing well. I cannot fathom wanting to eat somewhere based off of genuinely unappetizing fake pictures of food keywords.

Today, four justices on the Supreme Court tried to argue that the line in the constitution that says "All persons born in the United States are citizens of the United States" doesn't mean if you're born in the United States that you're a citizen of the United States. These justices are illegitimate.

My job has an old codebase that uses Playwright for testing. I went to read the documentation and frankly I don’t recognize my profession any more.
Screenshot: playwright-cli vs Playwright MCP

playwright-cli is best for coding agents (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, etc.) that favor token-efficient, skill-based workflows. CLI commands avoid loading large tool schemas and verbose accessibility trees into the model context.
MCP is best for specialized agentic loops that benefit from persistent state and iterative reasoning over page structure, such as exploratory automation or long-running autonomous workflows. See the MCP getting started guide.

They're right. LLMs have totally changed software engineering. For better or worse? It actually doesn't matter. It's already happened, and now we need to deal with it. Yet I'm still talking to people who think generative AI is worthless textual hallucinations, bad music and polydactyly deepfakes.

Made the switch from Nginx to Caddy a while ago and very happy with the results. My rec: the docs over-complicate things. skip the API and JSON. Just edit one system-wide Caddyfile and restart the service via systemctl.

So a lot of the hype around LLMs and a lot of the userbase just fundamentally misunderstands what the technology is and what it’s capable of, instead treating it like a mythical supernatural or religious being. The industry openly encourages this delusion for profit

Thinking about this graph a lot, showing how LLMs have essentially killed Stack Overflow traffic and, I'd extrapolate, most other coding forums like it. So what will happen in the future? When new libraries, languages and frameworks are released but without these sites for the LLMs to train on?

Angular.js learned from the mistakes of jQuery, React learned from the mistakes of Angular.js and Vue learned from the mistakes of React. I’m digging into React right now and it just feels less intuitive and more fiddly than Vue, like I’m using a tool that should have been depreciated by now.
