To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars. Even if those cars are electric. And then there’s all the parking. OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc. Choices. Simple.
Graphic showing a single lane 9 m wide track for metros, a 35 m wide road for buses with four lanes, and a 175 m wide road for cars with seven lanes, making the point that one single track of Metro replaces seven lanes of car traffic. Mobility in cities is about space.

In other words: This meme is a surprisingly accurate scaled depiction of the magnitude of the 2026 El Niño event vs the 1997 event *if using the absolute index.* But if using the relative index, Danny DeVito is currently the same height as Arnold Schwarzenegger. And either pairing is striking... 👀
A common meme from the movie "Twins" featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger towering over a similarly dressed Danny Devito modified such that "1997" appears above the diminuitive DeVito, and 2026 above Schwarzenegger.

Another fire at Moss Landing. I think this is #4. Yes, there are bad actors against the energy transition but there are also legitimate concerns, i.e. safety and who pays for it. Flattening that all into "permitting reform," ignores real issues. Just because it's green doesn't make it good. 1/
