Visiting 52 new pubs 34/52 The Delaval Arms - Seaton Sluice - Impressive weathered old building - Inside it's a proper pub with rooms sprouting off the main entrance hallway - I was pretty lashed by this point,(as you can tell from the photo) but I know they had a couple of ales on #52newpubs

Just come back from a meeting to talk about the nurdle spill and longer term plans for a clean Tyne. Lots of commitment in the room to the river, but also a lot of frustration at the continuing slow and low-level response and poor communication from various responsible organisations and companies.

The nurdles on our Tyneside coast are back with a vengeance today, both depressing in and of itself but also a clear indication of what will happen periodically over the coming months and years and tides and winds bring some of the many millions of plastic pellets still swirling around in our seas.
Thousands of white nurdles (plastic pellets) strewn across Whitley Bay beach, amidst seaweed and sand. Thousands of white nurdles (plastic pellets) strewn across North Shields Fish Quay beach, amidst seaweed and sand. Fog on (or above) the Tyne - foghorn sounding regularly, another one of things I love about living on the river.
Thick fog above a car wash and other roofs, in North Shields, on the Tyne.

0 collected, too too many spotted. After the short-lived optimism of last week, countless more plastic nurdles have washed ashore again at North Shields. The vacuums are back out but it's going to be a mammoth effort to clean up - and likely the first of many more winter deposits.
A close up image of seaweed, driftwood and seagull feathers on the seashore, covered in small white plastic nurdles.A sandy beach in the foreground with sweeps of seaweed and white plastic nurdles deposited. In the hazy background is a vegetated bank with buildings.

Grey plover being blasted by the waves on Spanish Battery Rocks, Tynemouth this evening. Not a common bird here by any means, even if I was hoping for better given the easterlies and murk. Newly arrived brambling and wheatear late on provided some hope for tomorrow though... #nebirding #patchbirding

Grey partridge at the base of Tynemouth Pier this morning - the first here for ~40 years! Genuine #patchgold and early contender for bird of the autumn😜 It's the first bird I've run for in a long time and just as well I did, as it was flushed by a van seconds after I got there! #nebirding #pwc2026
