Visiting 52 new pubs 35/52 Cavavin - Newcastle - Railway arch wine bar/Offies (they might prefer Wine Merchant to Offies) - A nice change of pace from my usual haunts - a great spot for a quiet catch-up with mates - Attentive knowledgeable staff - The sample menu is a bargain #52newpubs #Newcastle

Amber Taverns are opening 'The Gander' which replaces Newcastles short-lived Magpie. Named in an 'hilarious' nod to the previous incarnation The Goose I haven't been in any Amber pubs in years,not through lack of trying but because you have to clamber over one too many mobility scooters to get in

Visiting 52 new pubs 34/52 The Delaval Arms - Seaton Sluice - Impressive weathered old building - Inside it's a proper pub with rooms sprouting off the main entrance hallway - I was pretty lashed by this point,(as you can tell from the photo) but I know they had a couple of ales on #52newpubs

For those of you who remember Jarrow Brewery (and their pubs including The Maltings, Magnesia Bank & The Isis), Jess McConnell has died. 📷: via Shields Gazette (we’ve not shared the link to save you from all of their really annoying pop-up ads)
A photo of Jess McConnell behind the pumps in a Jarrow Brewery pub.

Text underneath reads: Jess McConnell, whose death was confirmed in a Facebook post by his daughter, shook up the local industry after buying the then derelict Robin Hood boozer in Jarrow.

I was recently commissioned to create a design for a group opposing a data centre in Derry. I wanted to create an image that'd hit without you needing to read and this unknowable monstrous architecture juxtaposed with the vintage Irish postcard hits quite hard I think. #ireland #datacentre #noai
Tiny little picture postcard Irish cottage but behind the hill is a vast unknowable data centre eating up the land and the sky.

If pubs in Newcastle were like Belfast we would be up to our oxters in Morris dancers, Lindisfarne cover bands and American tourists dressed like Gazza. Influencers would split the 'N' on 8 quid pints of 'Brown' in bars called 'The Canny Bag of Tudor' or 'The Spuggy I'm Blind' #Belfast #Newcastle

Pub Rules from Whites Tavern. 'Respect The Trad Session' Keep the chatter to a minimum. Maybe I'm dick but when I go to a pub for a pint and I'm chatting to my mates and ,someone I haven't paid to see or be warned about starts playing music, I'm just going to talk louder.

Anthropic's models run on terabytes of VRAM. It's not going to "just copy itself to other computers."

Rohan Paul
@rohanpaul_ai
Jacob Coxon's next interview on CBS News (ex Anthropic+Open AI researcher who resigned)

"We can't just unplug it because it could be copying itself over to other computers. Like it's not that difficult to find yourself because an AI is just code. It could transfer itself over the internet to a different place and then you unplug it here, but it's actually still over there and maybe it makes 10,000 copies of itself and they're all cooperating."

This Jacob Coxon thing is weird. He worked at Anthropic for six weeks and OpenAI for nearly three years. He’s doing a whole media tour without any real statements about what it is he’s scared of other than vague references to recursive self improvement, a theoretical ai that teaches itself.

'AI is going to wipe out humanity in 10 years' In reality it's just going to cripple the economy, destroy people's livelihoods and generally make everything worse It will just be another example of an IT project over promising and under delivering
