In het Frans heeft de vlinder verschillende namen (le géomètre à barreaux-ook bekend als le réseaudie) die verwijzen naar het traliewerk- of netpatroon op de vleugels (barreaux betekent tralies/spijlen en réseau betekent netwerk).
Latticed Heath is de engelse benaming:
betekent van een rasterpatroon voorzien. In het nederlands is de vlinder vernoemd naar de waardplant van de rups: klaver.
Om het af te maken, het duitse kleegitterspanner vertaalt naar het Nederlands als een klaverraster of een klaverpatroon.
