I think its also a sign of someone who is not only securely middle class themselves but who's immediate family is also all securely middle class as well. Otherwise the reality that "if older relatives fall on hard times, then its either the state or the kids who pick up the tab" would be obvious

The Voting Rights Act is essentially dead and it’s quite possible that we will, like when a similar SCOTUS gutted civil rights at the fall of Reconstruction, see a disappearance of much of the Black congressional representation, especially in the most heavily Black states, which are in the South.

There is *a lot* to unpack here but I have to go meet with students so I'll just say: not enough "yikes" in the world.
To satisfy the second and third preconditions—politically cohesive voting by the minority and racial-bloc voting by the majority—the plaintiffs must provide an analysis that controls for party affiliation, showing that voters engage in racial-bloc voting that cannot be explained by partisan affiliation.

A powerful man sexually pursuing a young woman who works for him is oppressive. It immediately limits and reshapes her future to her detriment, whether she is physically forced into it or not. It’s coercion either way, and that is why it’s so wrong. It’s an abuse of power.
