A hill I will die on: 1900s or “the nineteen hundreds” refers exclusively to the years 1900 to 1909. So “late 1900s” refers to 1907-1909, and not the 1990s.

Green Party conference just voted in favour of this motion, and this time, in the hall itself, specifically voted against an amendment which would have removed the element about “Zionist Synagogues”. As a result, for most Jews the Green Party will now be considered to have a policy of antisemitism.

Although it feels like I am shouting into the void about this sometimes, I want to share some further thoughts on the “Zionism is Racism” motion which the Green Party is due to debate in the next 16 hours. Just to address various points which I think people in general should know. A thread:

Me talking about someone I've posted with on the same social media site for a long time but never actually met
Still from the television show What We Do in the Shadows showing Laszlo speaking. Text reads "he's my best friend, he's my pal. He's my homeboy, my rotten soldier. He's my sweet cheese, my good-time boy."

If I never hear from Sharon Graham, ever again, it will be several months too soon. She is typical of the intellectual dishonesty plaguing this country, which demands radical change, but objects to anything actually changing.

This is a really odd article. He spends the article arguing that there’s no coherent methodology for calculating p(doom) and that we shouldn’t trust the numbers. Then he jumps to the conclusion there’s nothing to worry about. But at no point does he engage with the issue itself.

Interesting article from @jamesomalley.co.uk It relies on a few assumptions that may or may not end up being true, but they’re certainly plausible. Will access to AI end up being a social justice issue? open.substack.com/pub/jamesoma...

"The early days of Andy Burnham’s government have made Starmer’s look positively energetic: a PM who usually loves nothing more than being on camera has studiously avoided saying a word as he loses control of law and order in Britain, and his home secretary seems determined to appease the thugs."

If Shabana Mahmood is tough, why is she so slow to crack down on Danny Tommo and the far right?
Weeks of what looks like blatant lawbreaking have finally resulted in an arrest. But the home secretary seems happy to look elsewhere

A suggested statement for Andy Burnham.
‘The British public decided in the 1930s that they would not tolerate black-shirted militias marching through their streets. They would cherish robust political argument; they would not accept thuggery and intimidation. When Oswald Mosley led his Blackshirts to Cable Street, local people turned them back. A new law – introduced by a Liberal, backed by Labour and carried by a Conservative majority – banned private militias, political uniforms and ‘the use or display of physical force in promoting any political object’. The British people are as determined today as in the 1930s that they will not accept the methods of Mussolini and the Munich Beer Hall. This government will uphold the law and defend the traditions of British democracy’.
