ICE cannot do what it’s doing without local law enforcement. They need their manpower and infrastructure. That means if you want to stop ICE you are going to have to confront police collaboration and police power. I’m sorry but progressive hopes of avoiding this conflict are a recipe for failure.

As economic pressures gut local newsrooms across the country, white nationalist figures see an untapped opening: stepping into media deserts where there are few journalists left to sound the alarm.

“Local media has been dying all over America, which means that there’s essentially no real way to hold local governments accountable—and they can do whatever they want,” Kevin DeAnna told an invitation-only gathering of approximately 50 white nationalists in Rome.

Breaking into a broad smile, he excitedly added: “You should be fantasizing about this. This is a good thing.”

These things and worse exist and are already being used by cops across the country and somehow saying police should have less money is still a political third rail
The technology is unregulated “despite the clear human rights risks associated with its use,” Amnesty International researchers wrote in a 2025 report detailing instances in which electric-shock devices have been used for torture. The report ends with a recommendation that countries “cease use of, decommission and destroy any stockpiles of such prohibited electric shock weapons.” Yumna Rizvi, a senior policy analyst at the Center for Victims of Torture, called the gloves “inherently abusive equipment that facilitates torture.” Some police departments that use the devices issue guidance saying they shouldn’t be deployed against pregnant women, the elderly, or people in shackles. A 2021 user manual for the GLOVE notes that it can cause an “increase in blood pressure” and “changes in heart rhythm,” and recommends that users avoid shocking “those with obvious health conditions.” The manual also includes a graphic saying “evil is powerless when the good are unafraid,” laid over a Blue Lives Matter flag. The technology is unregulated “despite the clear human rights risks associated with its use,” Amnesty International researchers wrote in a 2025 report detailing instances in which electric-shock devices have been used for torture. Wow. Proponents of the ICE taser gloves are openly saying that one reason they love the gloves is that they doesn’t leave any marks or proof that they were used, making it harder for people to sue when they’re shocked excessively.
Mother Jones

"In today's society, you know, everybody's filming everything, everybody has a cell phone," Glueck said. If an officer punches someone on camera, that can go viral in an instant; even a standard taser leaves puncture wounds. But "the glove is low optic, and it looks better on camera, and it looks better to those witnesses. With a glove, there are no burn marks or scars."But local police across the country are still eagerly buying the gloves—in large part so that they can harm people and avoid being sued for it. It's been successful "from the patrolmen to the jailers," Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard said in a Compliant Technologies promotional video. "It's been a great tool as far as mitigating liability," according to Nelson County Jailer Justin Hall.
Bob Couey of the Floyd County Sheriff's Department sung the GLOVE's praises, too: "I highly recommend these gloves to anybody that's looking for a utility they can use that is conducive to not leading to lawsuits."

And there it is. CoreCivic sold four private jails to ICE this summer, booked a $1.8B gain, and is now spending $500M on a stock buyback for its investors. That’s when a company cancels its own shares to hand value to shareholders. Same profits, split fewer ways, so each share is worth more.
Screenshot of a CoreCivic press release dated August 10, 2026, headlined "CoreCivic Announces $500 Million Accelerated Share Repurchase Agreement." The text states the company entered an agreement with a financial institution to repurchase $500 million of its common stock, drawing on a $755.8 million program approved by its board on August 4, 2026, and that about $255.8 million in repurchase authorization will remain afterward. The company expects an initial delivery of roughly 12.4 million shares, with final settlement before the end of the second quarter of 2027. A table compares updated full-year 2026 guidance against guidance issued five days earlier. Net income falls from a range of $1.497 to $1.516 billion down to $1.492 to $1.511 billion. Adjusted net income falls from $161.5 to $169.5 million down to $157.0 to $165.0 million. Adjusted EBITDA falls from $440.5 to $445.5 million down to $434.5 to $439.5 million. Diluted earnings per share rises from $15.00 to $15.20 up to $15.62 to $15.82. Text below the table attributes the changes to the share delivery and to reduced interest income from deploying $500 million of cash on hand.Screenshot of the second page of CoreCivic's August 10, 2026 press release, consisting of forward-looking statements and the start of a supplemental financial table. The risk disclosures reference changes in how the federal government, including ICE, elects to use the company's detention capacity, and separately reference the company's ability to complete sales of additional company-owned assets, including the potential sale of additional facilities to ICE. A parenthetical states that the company does not, under longstanding policy, lobby for or against legislation determining the basis or duration of an individual's incarceration or detention. Below is a table titled "Guidance, Calculation of Adjusted Net Income, Funds From Operations, Normalized Funds From Operations, EBITDA, and Adjusted EBITDA," in thousands of dollars, for the year ending December 31, 2026. It begins with net income of $1,492,035 at the low end and $1,511,273 at the high end, subtracts a gain on sale of real estate assets of $1,785,000 to $1,800,000, adds income tax expense for special items of $446,841 to $450,553, and arrives at adjusted net income of $157,000 to $165,000. A second block performs a similar calculation to reach normalized funds from operations of $256,000 to $265,000, and lists diluted earnings per share of $15.62 to $15.82 alongside adjusted diluted earnings per share of $1.64 to $1.73.Screenshot of the final page of CoreCivic's August 10, 2026 press release. The top of the page completes a financial reconciliation showing EBITDA of $2,216,352 to $2,236,352 thousand, from which a gain on sale of real estate assets of $1,785,000 to $1,800,000 thousand is subtracted, arriving at adjusted EBITDA of $434,476 to $439,526 thousand. The remainder of the page is an explanatory note stating that adjusted net income, EBITDA, adjusted EBITDA, funds from operations, and normalized funds from operations are non-GAAP measures, describing how the company calculates them and cautioning that other companies may calculate them differently. The page ends with contact information for the company's investor relations and communications representatives.
