you arent a burden. you are a human being with wants and needs. having desires does not make you selfish. unless you are sonic, in which case you are not human and everything you do sickens me.

Happy #SpookyMonth! I'm spending October rounding up some death doula resources, since so much of the work is either learned through direct practice or just knowing how to find legal resources online. For October 1st, here's an adaptation of an exercise from "The Devil's Death" by Shiva Honey:
A black flyer with a purple border of skulls, candles, and assorted bones. Text is as follows:

ADAPTED FROM “THE DEVIL’S DEATH” BY SHIVA HONEY

DEATHBED DESIGN

MATERIALS
* SOME WAY OF DRAWING A PENTAGRAM
(CHALK, MARKERS, ALTAR CLOTH, ETC.)
* A BAG CONTAINING 25-50 SMALL OBJECTS FOR COUNTERS
(COINS, PEBBLES, SEEDS, ETC.)
* A NOTEBOOK AND FAVORITE PEN

INSTRUCTIONS
THIS EXERCISE ASKS YOU TO CONTEMPLATE YOUR IDEAL DEATH, SO BEGIN BY MENTALLY PREPARING FOR THAT EXPLORATION.

FIND A FLAT SURFACE AND SET UP YOUR PENTAGRAM, EITHER DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF YOU OR WITH YOURSELF IN THE CENTER OF THE FIVE POINTS.
LABEL THE POINTS OF THE PENTAGRAM “SIGHT,“ “SOUND,“ “SMELL,“ “TOUCH,“ AND “TASTE.“

(CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE)
(Second page of DEATHBED DESIGN)

 INSTRUCTIONS (CONTINUED)

FEEL THE WEIGHT OF THE BAG OF COUNTERS IN YOUR HANDS. IMAGINE YOURSELF AT THE TIME OF YOUR IDEAL DEATH, AND CONSIDER THE SENSATIONS YOU WOULD MOST WANT TO EXPERIENCE IN THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES.

WHAT DO YOU SEE?
WHAT DO YOU HEAR?
WHAT DO YOU SMELL?
WHAT DO YOU TASTE?
WHAT DO YOU TOUCH?

EACH TIME YOU THINK OF SOMETHING THAT YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE, PLACE A COUNTER AT THE CORRESPONDING POINT OF YOUR PENTAGRAM. RECORD EACH SPECIFIC WISH IN YOUR NOTEBOOK.

(IT‘S POSSIBLE THAT YOU‘LL PLACE EQUAL VALUE ON ALL SENSES OR FIND THAT ONE OR TWO SENSES ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT FOR YOU!)

EACH TIME YOU THINK OF SOMETHING THAT YOU DON‘T WANT TO EXPERIENCE, TAKE A COUNTER AND CAST IT FROM YOUR PENTAGRAM. RECORD YOUR AVERSIONS AS WELL AS YOUR DESIRES.

REPEAT UNTIL YOU‘RE OUT OF COUNTERS, REVIEW YOUR NOTES, THEN DO WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO RESET BOTH THE PHYSICAL SPACE AND YOUR MENTAL SPACE.

I bought these for .25 each a few years ago not knowing what was on them. Turns out they're incredible mixes of post-punk, rock, dub, reggae etc. including a track I've not been able to identify. Download them off our Dropbox and enjoy: www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/63q1v...

for fucking REAL. the depth of trauma for those undiagnosed with ADHD is real. not just the way we feel like we're constantly failing (because everyone is telling us we are) but not understanding WHY because we have no context to understand other people aren't struggling with the things we are.

torchship's entire premise is that we'll let you have your laser gun, but i'm giving you a choice: either put on these glasses, or start eating that trash can
Flash Blindness
Exposure to extremely bright lights, like the backscatter of a laser beam, the flare of an arc welder, or an atomic blast, is a genuine health hazard. Sufficient levels of light hitting your optic nerve can literally burn the inside of your retina, and do similar damage to delicate camera sensors.
Exposure to these flash blindness risks without eye protection all have the same effect; a blinding flash inflicts 2d3 Thermal Damage at Intensity 2 to your eyes. Sufficient distance or other mitigating factors may reduce the damage to 1d3; a person facing a laser impact site is likely to be blinded outright, while those who were looking away at a nearby wall may only be temporarily blinded.
TO BE CLEAR: All laser weapons capable of inflicting any level of Damage in the game rules have this blinding risk. If you could see the impact site, now you can’t. Wear your flash glasses.

writing about culinary history often winds up being about exploitation, colonization, conquest and war, because these are methods that cultures and thus cuisines cross-pollinate - forcibly. insofar as food is central to how we live, human conflict shapes it

Vaccine conspiracism is overwhelmingly clustered among the religious, white and affluent. It’s a function of conservative ideology and bad faith media. Being nicer to MAHA types will not ‘bring them into the fold,’ it will only increase their sense of entitlement.
Objective: Strengthening of antivaccination movements in recent decades has coincided with unprecedented increases in the incidence of some communicable diseases. Many intervention programs work from a deficit model of science communication, presuming that vaccination skeptics lack the ability to access or understand evidence. However, interventions focusing on evidence and the debunking of vaccine-related myths have proven to be either nonproductive or counterproductive. Working from a motivated reasoning perspective, we examine the psychological factors that might motivate people to reject scientific consensus around vaccination. To assist with international generalizability, we examine this question in 24 countries. Methods: We sampled 5,323 participants in 24 countries, and measured their antivaccination attitudes. We also measured their belief in conspiracy theories, reactance (the tendency for people to have a low tolerance for impingements on their freedoms), disgust sensitivity toward blood and needles, and individualistic/hierarchical worldviews (i.e., people's beliefs about how much control soci hould have over individuals, and whether hierarchies are desirable). Results: In
order of magnitude,
antivaccination attitudes were highest among those who (a) were high in conspir-
atorial thinking, (b) were high in reactance, (c) reported high levels of disgust toward blood and needles, and (d) had strong individualistic/hierarchical worldviews
. In contrast, demographic variables (including
education) accounted for nonsignificant or trivial lev
f variance. Conclusions: These data help
identify the "attitude roots" that may motivate and sustain vaccine skepticism. In so doing, they help shed light on why repetition of evidence can be nonproductive, and suggest communication solutions to that problem.
Keywords: vaccination, conspiracy beliefs, health communication,
