Crazy that the AG is like “you said he was planning to take money from the slush fund, which aforementioned slush fund did not yet exist, ergo no harm no foul” and it’s just like, dawg you are the AG and you are defending a crime fund, is that what you dreamt of in law school

A state that redraws its legislative maps before every election to maximize advantage for the incumbent party is not a democracy or a republic and in any case obviously violates the guarantee clause, among many others. No country does this. No country ever thought of doing this. It is a total farce.

The Times’ dumbest econ reporter carrying water for the Trump administration
The NYT has a blurb that says “Updates from Reporters.” The featured blurb is from Talmon Joseph Smith, the dumbest econ reporter at the Times, who says “in one respect, it is a setback for the fiscal situation in the US. For all of the downsides noted by various business leaders and economists, it also is true that revenue from the tariffs buttressed the federal budget”

NYT framing an historically embarrassing and disastrous 48 hours for the country as some sort of triumph for Trump is certainly a choice
NYT homepage with the headline “Trump touts Greenland framework as nato mulls US sovereignty over bases.”

The subhead reads “Trump’s announcement appeared to draw the US back from the possibility of military and economic conflict with American allies”

This is an incredibly shitty headline and subhead

Of course this will be bad in its own very special way, but the obsequiousness from the press is straight out of Iraq 2.0, baby.

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

Instead of regurgitating the bromide that LLMs are just "autocomplete on steroids" (even by people who know better), maybe we can actually engage in some public education. The problem with genAI is better expressed through a classic computer science concept, known as SYMBOL GROUNDING. 🧵

The US economic model it's offering to the world is fartcoin, sports betting, and natural oils, the Chinese economic model is high speed rail and solar panels. Americans have rejected Geist and their country won't survive it

Project 2025 is a jumble of policies, too, but the right has a trifecta and the policies are mostly destructive rather than constructive, so they are easier to implement.

ICE is going to end up being basically a Civilian Conservation Corps-style makework program for downwardly mobile young men, but instead of making nice parks and stuff, it will make human misery.

The Court had no problem with nationwide injunctions from District judges when, say, the Biden administration used its explicit statutory authority to "waive or modify" student loan payments, but when Trump wants to nullify the explicit text of the Fourteenth Amendment the practice must end

If an administration can get away with falsifying social security records to target individuals, then there is no bottom. There's also no such thing as a "citizen" because that can be changed with a couple button presses too. Mark your SSN and passport as dead then ship you to El Salvador.

These are the worst pigs in the universe torturing all children in a not very wealthy state because the chief pig feels personally slighted, and also is demanding other children be tortured and humiliated as he demands. Of course we can't frame it this way in polite discourse for some reason.

The White House ordering DOJ to drop pending prosecutions is a breach of the department’s traditional independence that would be an earthshaking scandal under ordinary circumstances.
