Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Went to McGill and tried to figure out a way to stay legally post-graduation. Damn near impossible to be an aimless 22 y/o if you’re not already a citizen. “But I would like to contribute to your economy in my 30s when I figure it out!” No. You may not. 0101
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 19/08/2026High school friend of mine who lives there posted on instagram that she had registered as a Republican just to vote in the primary. Didn’t think much of it, but looks like she was part of the groundswell 140
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 16/08/2026In the summer of 2007 I broke my foot. The flophouse I shared with 5 other overeducated and underemployed people did not have internet, but we had a lot of leftover liberal arts assigned reading books, which I tore through one after another from the comfort of the ratty couch on our farmers porch. 121
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 12/08/2026Remember when he came to Bluesky and got dog-walked and promptly took his ball and went back to the Nazi site? Good times. 0231
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 27/07/2026This is an issue with Everything Being Phone now. You can extrapolate this out to other antisocial/socially undesirable behaviors (gambling, etc.) and you have a model of seemingly low-stakes but really corrosive behaviors that are enabled by frictionless apps that encourage/gamify those behaviors 010
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 13/07/2026It looks like ICE killed someone in my neighborhood this morning. As always, fuck ICE. www.wmtw.com/article/sign...wmtw.comPerson killed in shooting involving ICE in Biddeford, official saysPolice closed part of busy Pool Street in Biddeford on Monday morning and there was a significant police presence. 021
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 11/07/2026I got an MBA from 21-22. Elder millennial. Early group projects sucked because I had to edit everyone’s shit writing into something coherent. Later group projects sucked because I had to shoehorn LLM output into the parameters of the assignments. I did my capstone solo. 010
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 07/07/2026His polling numbers were honestly pretty bad. Worse than generic Dem, and we have plenty of those. 100

Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 19/05/2026Crazy that the AG is like “you said he was planning to take money from the slush fund, which aforementioned slush fund did not yet exist, ergo no harm no foul” and it’s just like, dawg you are the AG and you are defending a crime fund, is that what you dreamt of in law school 0103
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 14/05/2026Live in Maine. Not a fan of Platner. Will still vote against him in the primary. Will obviously vote for him in the general. Not hard. 180
Reposted by TomFred, His Enemy Getting a Vote @thefred.bsky.social · 06/05/2026A state that redraws its legislative maps before every election to maximize advantage for the incumbent party is not a democracy or a republic and in any case obviously violates the guarantee clause, among many others. No country does this. No country ever thought of doing this. It is a total farce. 4756971414
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 26/03/2026Yes I live in Maine. The Maine subreddits are all full tilt on Platner. I feel like a crazy person. He has a Nazi tattoo! What the fuck! I will vote for him if he’s the nominee. 290

Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 13/02/2026Plus, she’s term-limited out of the governor’s office this year, so some of the ambitious statewide pols have their sights trained on that, rather than the Senate. 020
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 13/02/2026Yeah, that’s the thing. There’s no good third option right now. Mills is the best of the three. She’ll get my primary vote unless someone else steps in. 110
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 13/02/2026I’m not thrilled about voting for Mills in the primary (too old, pro-filibuster, etc.) but when the other choice is a guy with a Nazi tattoo, there isn’t really much to think about here. 050

Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 22/01/2026NYT framing an historically embarrassing and disastrous 48 hours for the country as some sort of triumph for Trump is certainly a choice 012
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 03/01/2026Of course this will be bad in its own very special way, but the obsequiousness from the press is straight out of Iraq 2.0, baby. 010

Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 22/11/2025100% non-snarkily, that’s kind of the idea behind the 401k, right? You work at a place for however long, you and your employer contribute to your retirement plan, and it goes with you when you leave. It’s not a defined-benefit plan, but you can (theoretically) turn it into one when you retire 010
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 25/10/2025No one knows what Platner believes in his heart of hearts but we do know he had a Nazi tattoo up until last week. 0121
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 15/10/2025It already is a competitive primary? It’s not just Mills vs Platner here – there are other candidates! 020
Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 10/10/2025Maine is the oldest and whitest state in the country. It is not the oracle for Democratic Party politics nationally, even if Platner wins. 1130

Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 17/08/2025Pushkin is good to have read if you want to talk about Pushkin’s influence on Russian literature and absolutely useless otherwise. (He’s fine? But I don’t read Russian and I didn’t get the hype from the translations.) 210

Tom @tombomb.bsky.social · 06/08/2025This is an extremely Modern understanding of the purpose of art. It’s not so much that it’s right-wing, it’s just that it’s very 20th Century, and as people have scrutinized it, it’s gone out of fashion. Which is good, because it’s very clearly wrong, lol. 010
