And I maintain that's the point. Not to convict Trump's enemies, but to destroy the DOJ's credibility so that future administrations can't get subpoenas or warrants to investigate them. Everytime they get caught lying, the likelihood a future DOJ can get a subpoena on Trump's lackeys goes down.

This is a moral atrocity and it needs to be loudly condemned as such. There is a reason that democracies *don't* do publicly televised executions (and why many don't execute people at all): it inculcates and rewards bloodthirst, which corrupts the spirit and corrodes the foundation of the polity.

Anyone care to guess which of those neighborhoods had a lower socio-economic reputation? Or perhaps draw any inferences about differences in racial makeup of the neighborhoods?

If I had to guess, they see Hampden as a nicer place to use to draw people in. When I was a teen, we moved from Brooklyn to Staten Island. My mother *insisted* we moved into the Westerleigh neighborhood, even though when I looked at a map I could see us *just* inside the "border" of Port Richmond.

there’s a lot of actually sensible curiosity about the minutiae of a US state-sponsored execution—who does lighting? are there ads? is there chat? who’s on crafts? is it multi cam? this is the actual banality of evil & if you are asked to facilitate this it is your task to instead stand in its way.
courtney love lies bleeding says:

who's gonna be the first company to sponsor that televised execution?
i am fascinated by the idea of ad breaks and what the cost will be.emily blight says:

this is the actual banality of evil shit. the person who provides the facilitator guide in an interactive pdf. is there a crafts table? someone will set that up.
you should not be one of these people.zoë “baddie proctor” quinn

there's gonna be a guy who does the sound check for the first livestreamed state execution. they'll probably have someone stand where the guy is gonna be shot to death by the state so that they can make sure the lighting, color, and framing is "correct" when people watch a man die.

some producer, probably within the next month, will decide if this man's death is a single camera setup or if they're going to do multi camera and if there will be
commentators. They probably have to design what will cover the faces of the shooters or look at headshots if there's no coverings at all

In 1996, George Carlin joked about putting executions on pay-per-view to slake the country's bloodlust and help balance the budget. "You think that would get big ratings? In this sick fuckin' country!?" And now here we are, 30 years later, living down to the satirical. youtu.be/3PffIB7fn9A?...

It is commonplace to be *intentionally* swerved at, squeezed into the curb, cut-off, aggressive tailgating, close-passed, etc. Many of us have had things thrown at us. This is all violence and it’s happening to every cyclist just trying to get from A to B (even the “safe” ones).

The phrase that explains a lot of what is happening today is "increasingly weak and desperate." That doesn't make anything less vile, and it doesn't mean things are less dangerous - they're very not. But this is what is happening.

I strongly doubt Adobe is freaking out over this. For many reasons. First, the breathless post notwithstanding, the project probably didn't 'decompile' anything. (At least if the AI followed the instructions it was allegedly given.) It's an attempt to rebuild Adobe from observed functions.

I’ve recently realized that as a woman who grew up in the 70’s, I’m not sure women my age even know what consent is. We were expected to resist, and boys expected to, at a minimum, badger us into it. So I don’t think we knew whether we wanted sex or not. It was super confusing.

The National Science Foundation, one of the biggest sources of federal research funding, withheld $1.4 billion that Congress had intended for research over the course of the past year, according to internal data reviewed by The New York Times.
The extraordinary move - holding back about one-fifth of the N.S.E's primary research budget — is the latest sign of how the Trump administration is finding creative ways to work around Congress.
Lawmakers from both parties have consistently opposed White House-led proposals to cut funding to major science agencies, including the N.S.F. and the
