Not to defend Bessent but: A fall in the debt-GDP ratio requires a *primary* surplus of at least D(r-g) where D is the current debt-GDP ratio, r is the average interest rate on government debt, and g is the GDP growth rate (both rates real or both nominal, doesn't matter which.)

One thing I'm noticing talking to my students about AI—all of whom use it for everyday life and have negative feelings about—is that they all have internalized guilt and imposter syndrome about their own work and cognition. They all feel like they're waiting to get caught doing something wrong.

I don’t want to dunk in any one person, as I see this argument a lot, so I’ll post a screenshot rather than quoting it, because this sentiment is common. Peter Thiel has a philosophy degree. Lots of these guys have liberal arts degrees. Credentialism & reverence for institutions won’t save us.
