I wrote about a reason not to use generative AI in your writing that I haven't seen anyone talking about. Once I realized this, banning GenAI in our lab's writing became a no-brainer. Feel free to share, I think this is probably useful especially for trainees: www.carlsonlab.bio/thoughts/the...

you know, with all the money that pharma spends on ads (re-re-re-re-re-rereminded this weekend watching some TV), it would be great if they would, I dunno, sponsor a hard-hitting series on HBO Max or (lol) CBS or something to teach America the reality of drug discovery and development

Bridging continuous and discrete evolution through a controllable, hypermutagenic phage-bacteria system
Nature Microbiology, Published online: 01 May 2026; doi:10.1038/s41564-026-02346-yThe lytic selection and evolution (LySE) system uses a plasmid-encoded, hypermutagenic T7 DNA polymerase and T7 phagemid-encoded target genes to enable controllable, near-continuous directed evolution of large gene clusters.

TurboTax literally uses profits from their paid tax filing services to lobby Congress to not implement free e-filing for all. Makes sense with their business model I guess, but their business model is immoral.

Fine for screening clones, not so good when your experiment depend on purity of plasmid. If you want to try to out-cheap me on labware, I spent my PhD dumpster diving for single-use drosophila vials and scrubbing them out by hand for reuse. May the science gods help you if you run a screen.

I think it would be a bit of a stretch to put it that way. Drt3b is a kind of "machine for printing poly(AC)". It can only do that. It's hard to see how something like this could manage to write an arbitrary sequence, or even a more complex one, into DNA. /19

In the original script for The Matrix, the character of Switch was male in the real world but female in the Matrix. Warner Bros ordered the Wachowskis to cut this from the film. Trans Visibility Day is necessary because our cultural gatekeepers have deliberately erased trans voices.
A still from 1999's the Matrix, directed by Lilly and Lana Wachowski. We're in the front seat of a car, raindrops splattering against the window. Switch, an androgynous blonde person is pointing a gun at someone in the backseat. Switch is staring them down, taking no shit. The scene has a greenish tint to everything, indicating that this takes place in the Matrix.
