The fact that contributing to the defeat of fascism accelerated the demise of the British Empire just means that’s we got two Ws for the price of one btw.

I've run into this problem with mathematicians (until I imposed an urgency condition, a mathematician friend of mine insisted that belief revision must be irrational) but I know pretty well a lot of computer scientists share a conception of knowledge similar to philosophers

I just turned the page to this chapter as my music playlist cued the main theme from "Halo: Combat Evolved" and I have to say that's the most accurate summation of my attitude towards this "HtMIC" that any work of art could elicit.
4.3. "How to Make Our Ideas Clear".

Empiricism, as we nowadays define it, entails that experience is our only source of knowledge about the natural world. Scientific theories should be appropriately connected to observation and hypotheses without such a connection are illegitimate since there are no extrasensory ways to obtain reliable knowledge about reality. In spelling out this rather abstract view, empiricist philosophers have defended a variety of positions. They have developed different conceptions of experience, different ideas about the right connection between theory and evidence, and different views about what is wrong with beliefs that do not satisfy these constraints. Broadly speaking, however, one can distinguish two different (but compatible) clusters of positions: those that are concerned with justification and maintain that our beliefs should have the right inferential connection to observational evidence, and those that focus on meaning and maintain that theoretical terms should have the appropriate semantic connection to observational concepts. The former typically appeal to deductive, inductive, or abductive modes of inference to distinguish between justified and unwarranted beliefs. The latter appeal to definition, translation, and analysis to determine whether a concept is meaningful or meaningless.
The American physicists encountered thus far are all concerned with evidential support. Yet some of the most sophisticated late- nineteenth- century treatises on the philosophy of science also emphasize the importance of empirical meaning, Peirce’s six- part Illustrations of the Logic of Science being the best- known example. In “How to Make our Ideas Clear,” the second of his six papers,

This makes me hopeful. This number is aspirational but nowhere near out of reach: a working professional could realistically cash out their 401k and buy off a public official. Owning a senator is more attainable for most Americans than home ownership.

I think this is the exact face I made when I caught a student copying answers on an online exam, and they insisted that they had simply memorized the sequence of answers on a practice exam published online by a previous student, and mindlessly applied them.

I think the median voter believes in Natural Prices, and these are about how much things costed at the most recent point in their mind where they felt relatively financially stable. They expect politicians and businesses to honour this and take steps to ensure things cost their Natural Price.
