... It's come about because of the inability of the people behind the motion to understand that being committed to a righteous cause means understanding the moral principles underlying it. Otherwise you fall into the same trap. Anyway, I'm shutting up now.

...It's incredibly frustrating and it makes me want to remove my membership. The party's own MPs were against the motion. They proposed amendments which were ignored. And the party will be split over this now, falling apart over a self induced wound...

Colin Harris-Day @thepoetscane.com · 06/10/2026
...The whole motion is politically and morally naive, and of dubious motive, and the greens are in danger of relegating themselves to the status of cranks, at a time when they were on the cusp of becoming a party to be reckoned with in politics...

... It sounds like the applying of traits to different peoples, in a very racist way which doesn't take into account the moral complexity of human beings...

...Are they assuming, in their minds, that because they are the victims now, that Palestinian Arabs aren't capable of the same behaviour as Israel given the right situation or cause? That they're noble where Jews are not? Because this sounds awfully like actual antisemitism...

Colin Harris-Day @thepoetscane.com · 06/10/2026
...How do they think this will come about? Through war? Mutual consent? Are they imagining a happy clappy democratic secular govt under which Arabs, Jews and others all live in perfect harmony? Because Israel is a democratic state, but that hasn't stopped the oppression of Palestinians...

Colin Harris-Day @thepoetscane.com · 06/10/2026
The 2nd part of the motion is even worse: 'A single democratic Palestine in all of historic Palestine'. So only one version of a solution is now Green policy. No two state solution, no matter how the region develops politically in years to come. And it essentially calls for the removal of Israel...

Remember the shit that happened when labour tried to stop antisemitic people using criticism of Israel as a cover (which happens), by having a house policy that criticism of Israel equalled anti-Semitism? It was stupid, and hindered true discussion. This is the flip side view.

So #GoodLuckHaveFunDon'tDie was a fun film. Some of the plot doesn't quite hold up on reflection, but it was having such a blast with its own premise, who cares? Sam Rockwell perfectly cast.

Catching up on #snluk and the Harry Kane babybel fever dream is my kind of weird nonsense. The show is at its best when it goes either full on satirical or just plain weird.

I put Scif instead of Sci-Fi, but I kind of prefer it. Read any good Scif lately? Yes, there's some good Scif out at the moment.

Colin Harris-Day @thepoetscane.com · 28/09/2026
I genuinely think about this all the time. Scif focuses so much on earth being invaded or conquered, but it's not worth the effort. They can just stick a metaphorical flag in our solar system and we can't do anything about it even if we noticed.

we've never had much reason to articulate this before a.i., but a reason we enjoy literature, art, music, etc. is that we know it is one human mind trying to express something fundamentally human and otherwise inexpressible to another human mind

The staff in my local cex branches are also really helpful and knowledgeable, so I felt really defensive on their behalf during the cex sketch!

Yeah, I thought the sketches were weak. It was odd to see parodies of the x-factor and the cube as well. Felt like watching topical sketches from 15 years ago

I think that was the first #snluk episode that didn't land for me. Maybe I'm misjudging it because I liked the previous ones so much, but it seemed weird and off. No jokes outside of weekend update. Ignore me, though. I'm an old grump.

The Sheeran thing has fascinated me. I never anticipated him simply trying to get some new support acts and carrying on like nothing happened though. Was hoping for some kind of backbone growth.

Honestly, to have not just your support acts pull out, but your backing band too, is some next level shit. I actually feel a bit sorry for Sheeran. The ultimate bland apolitical pop star, who no matter what he does now, it will be a political act.
