Don’t believe the take going around that Matthew Vines’ NYT piece is just about his personal preference not to use the word “queer.” It is 100% a political thought piece blaming queer theory and the “queer” community for the threat to marriage marriages equality for the “good gays” like him

And so I continue to look at the GOP and think, aren't you humiliated enough yet? What would be enough to break your loyalty? And to Dems, why can't you see that reaching across the aisle" for moderate compromise to get us back to "normal" is DOA?

Juneteenth is a mirror held up to the 4th of July.
It reflects how long we celebrated freedom when not everyone was free.
It reflects how much we still do.
A grace filled, liberating, and joyful Juneteenth to you all.

But didn't you hear? Chatbots that steal actual writers' work only use the same amount of water as huge tracts of farmland. And since obviously we can't assess which one provides more to human wellbeing we can't be against data centers unless we're against farms too.

I realize this is not the worst part, but I really resent the way people throw around the term “blood libel.” The blood libel is a very specific thing, and justified centuries of antisemitic slaughter. It doesn’t just mean “any old accusation of violence that I would prefer not be true.”

Some seem to be taking the wrong lessons from this scene. kotaku.com/university-c... (1) It is 0% shocking that new college graduates (in humanities!) are critical of AI. (2) Pushing back on AI hype from a commencement speaker seems more likely an indication of high rather than low AI literacy.

The fantasy of a university that is “cutting edge” without disciplinary basics and does football but not history and produces knowledge first but also profit first and makes expertise but improves nothing and saves the sector by cannibalizing it is incoherent, besides being a project of social harm

I work w/ college students. I don’t deny in the stress of the moment it is easy for students to default to Chat-GBT, but almost every student I know is absolutely ideologically opposed to AI. They see the risk to the planet and to human creativity. I wish us olds were so clear-sighted
