Happy Birthday Michael Powell, here seen performing a magic trick with a single sheet of paper. I only planned to post that one shot of the paper drifting down, but then I was reminded of the miraculous sound of it all! The unearthly choir! The footsteps! The echoes! And half the set is a painting!

Alberta autumn.
Shadows of trees stretch out across a field, round hay bales dot the horizon, and a wide blue sky with wispy clouds dome the landscape overhead.

We should legislate that there's one song you're allowed to sing along to if it comes up on the work playlist and nobody is allowed to throw things at you.

First we must address why this poor child has spent over 200 years without socks on.
One of the three Jaquet-Droz automata. On the left, the little automaton sits at a desk writing. On the right, his red velvet coat opened to reveal his inner workings.

Claude Rains between takes on the set of Deception (1946)
Actor Claude Rains — in costume, dressed in a black tuxedo sans jacket — captured facing the camera while perched on a wooden stool, left foot raised, right on the floor, his hands resting on the top of a stair rail, the steps out of view, an orchestra seated behind him, in a full-length black-and-white shot taken from beneath during a break from filming on the set of Deception (1946)

All chores are equally awful UNLESS it's a day where you can blast showtunes through the entire house. Then the chores become the mindless thing you accomplish while achieving your true aim, which is belting so loud that your cats run away.

It's one thing to have that man target us, but what is especially horrific is watching the American newsmedia and pundit class willfully—and sometimes, we are starting to suspect, maliciously—frame the actions of our government as petty, rather than the prevention of something truly unthinkable.
