Broke in my new tablet with some Cetitan and Cetoddle - I love a good critter that gives me early whale vibes (also their shiny versions so had to include that) #pokemon
An illustration of cetitan, a bipedal whale like pokemon. I depict it with paw pads and claws on its front arms / flippers and feet. It has a whiskery snout, five large horns on its head / jaws, and long teeth with blunted ends.
It watches over three cetoddle younglings (only with a single horn and a few teeth), the left one bowing down on all fours to playfully try and wake the peacefully napping one in the middle and exposing its white belly to the viewer. Further back to the right of them is another cetoddle, mouth open in an excited call before it will go on to hurriedly toddle over.
They are illustrated in a full array of bright colours with contrasting dark linework and set against a simple off white background.

DOD is not letting trans service members attend their own separation hearings unless they conform with Whiskey Pete's notion of their gender. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/03/u...
At least six of Ms. Rashid’s clients were barred from attending their own separation board hearings because they refused to cut their hair and appear in the uniform of their sex assigned at birth. One was a master sergeant in South Korea with 17 years of service who was allowed to testify by video, but only if she turned off her camera.

“I have gone to pretrial confinement hearings where somebody is so addicted to meth that they are throwing up on my shoes,” Ms. Rashid said. “They were allowed into their own hearing.”

I don't think people understand how thin the line between "deportation" and "extermination" really is - not just in Europe, but everywhere the topic comes up. Many people feel comfortable with the idea of deportation because it obscures the underlying violence that is necessarily implied.

I finished the illustrations for @nkjemisin.bsky.social 's "The World We Make" special edition from Subterranean Press a while back but it's finally out! One of my favorite interior illustrations:
Digital illustration, an overhead shot of a man with short curly black hair in a white button up, holding a knife, standing next to a man in a vest and a knit skull cap and white beard holding an anchovy. All around them cats and seagulls are swarming. Across from them, through cracked cement, at the top of the illustration, several eerie cats and birds with tentacles growing from their bodies and glowing white eyes stare back at the men.

Slaughter also lays the basis for a deeper assault on the civil service. It's logic — that senior officials who employ executive power must be removable by the President — could easily extend to other public servants beyond the heads of independent agencies, including senior civil servants.
In her dissent, Justice Sotomayor noted this risk:

The Government, at least, has the candor not to deny that the “logic” of its position “extends to inferior officers” and, perhaps, career civil servants, too….The majority, however, at best consigns these issues to years of future uncertainty and at worst risks the end of the employment protections that apply to members of the civil service.

With Slaughter, SCOTUS allows Trump to remove independent agency heads. This is consequential for the promise that such regulators will be somewhat independent of the President of the day, and by extension, the corporations/donors they oversee. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/welcome-to...
At no point did Trump make any effort to justify the firings. I do think this bears mentioning because the magical thinking behind unitary executive theory implies some governing logic behind it — that Trump is an nationally elected official, and therefore most responsive to the will and interests of the people. The reality is that Trump is a deeply unpopular president whose purges are broadly disliked and whose attack on regulatory agencies will serve donors, not the public. But reality must not intrude on SOCTUS reasoning.
