It’s astonishing how far ahead the 2026 El Niño is. The red line is 2026. The other warmest El Niños are the colored lines. It’s not even playing in the same league. Some of this is of course due to this natural El Niño cycle on top of long-term ocean warming… 1/

Microsoft's data center subcontractor in New Jersey illegally runs a bunch of gas "backup" generators on site, figuring they won't get caught or will just eat the wrist-slap fines if they do. Regulatory enforcement is so bad that a third party had to take drone images to get the state to act.

Yes, 'El Niño-fuelled wildfires', but these wildfires are also fuelled by deforestation, land clearing, the drainage of peatlands for palm oil plantations, etc. While dry conditions exacerbate the problem, they are not the sole cause; there is also a direct human impact 🧪🌍🔥🌳🍁 wildfire #conservation

Unsurprisingly, a detailed investigation by Boston University/NPR finds heat deaths are way underreported in the U.S. : ~9000 per year in 2018-2025, 5x higher than CDC estimates. “In Florida, We estimate more than 1,900 deaths each year, about 40 times as many as reported.”
