I absolutely know who needs to hear this, though I won’t name names. Progressive orgs need to stop pretending that “AGI” and “x-risk” are ideas to take seriously. No one is building a computer god that could go rogue and turn us into paper clips.

if i were a frontier AI company, i wouldn't simply use it to create and sell countless incredible and profitable innovations and products, which it can definitely do. i would instead sell subscriptions to cubicle dwellers, at an enormous loss.

did you know you can just block people who fall for obvious bullshit? it's great; they've self-identified as someone not worth listening to and you're under no responsibility to educate them out of their idiocy, they have nothing of value to you!

look i totally agree with the idea that men need to speak up when other men are engaged in rape-y talk but lets not sugarcoat it, it will cost you friendship groups and will never be taken well, and you will also have women telling you you're overreacting speaking from a lot of experience here

I wanna be totally clear: I don't even necessarily believe that we should assume Anthropic's LLM "plagiarized" the work of a biologist because his data was in a training set. I think it's very possible that *people at anthropic deliberately engaged in plagiarism to produce an apparent result.*

One of the most incredibly composed shots in Doctor Who history ("The Tenth Planet", from a YouTube recolouriser video). Why is that Cyberman standing like that? Hilariously the shot begins with a close-up on Robert Beatty in the background before it zooms out through the Cyberman's legs
Colourised frame from a 1960s Doctor Who episode. An original design Cyberman stands jauntily in the middle of the frame, legs wide apart with one foot on a box. Through the Cyberman's legs you can see a human, played by Robert Beatty, lying down but waking up and looking puzzled.
