“Yeah, that’s a blue box.” - Woz, for the ten seconds after his talk at VCF West before he was quickly escorted back to his car by event security (seriously, he was in and out via a sideroomwith no off-mic talk time or a walk-through and that sucked.)

Computers: A Muppetronic Report: #Muppet Magazine
Great Moments (and neat stuff) in Computer History
By Scooter as told to Roger Schulman

photograph of Scooter holding dot-matrix paper, at the top of which he’s written “gosh, my very own report!” Then there’s a photograph of Ada Lovelace, then a moth…

Hi Everybody. Scooter here. I'm really excited that Kermit asked me to share my school report on computers with all you Muppet Magazine readers. You know, computers have changed a whole lot in a very short time. Thirty years ago, they were as big as the gym at my school, and the only people who got to use them were scientists like Dr. Honeydew. But today, computers are everywhere. Even arcade games and robots are really computers. And the space shuttle is equipped with five computers on board to help it fly.

So here's some of the best stuff I found, with thanks to Dr. Honeydew for letting me rummage through the Muppet Lab files. And special thanks to Animal for helping me with the paperwork.

1840
Ada Augusta Lovelace was the daughter of the famous British poet Lord Byron. She was also a mathematical genius and the world’s first programmer! She lived during a time (1815-1852) when computers were first being imagined. And she invented what is now called the GOTO statement, which allows the same programming instructions to be used over and over again. In her honor, the U.S. Department of Defense's programming language is called ADA. Nice work, Ada!

1945
Every computer expert knows that “bug” is a nickname for something that's wrong with a computer. But not many whiz kids know that the first bug was really a bug! In 1945, Grace Hopper, an officer in the U.S. Navy, was using a computer at Harvard. Suddenly, it stopped working. When they checked it out, they found that a moth had snuck inside! (Fozzie says that must have
"bugged" them!)
