If you're a Dem who thinks you'll gain something by going anti-trans, look at Gallup's "most important problem" and Fox News' "most important issue" polling and see where trans issues rank. Whoever told you going anti-trans is a savvy or necessary move spends too much time on X and should be fired.
Gallup polling. "LGBTQ rights" moves between 0 and 1%.Fox news polling. Wokeness/transgender issues at 0%.

Hello, Zagreb! Currently at #oaspa2026, where I’ll be presenting our @openatcmu.bsky.social poster, “From Dumping Ground to Discovery Engine: Rethinking the Institutional Repository as Connective Open Infrastructure.” If you’re here, say hi! #openscience doi.org/10.1184/R1/3...

From Dumping Ground to Discovery Engine: Rethinking the Institutional Repository as Connective Open Infrastructure
Institutional repositories are often treated as passive archives: places where OA materials accumulate rather than engines that actively surface, connect, and amplify open scholarship. At Carnegie Mellon University Libraries, we are rethinking this model through a suite of interoperable integrations designed to make our repository, KiltHub, a dynamic node in the broader open knowledge ecosystem. Our initiative has three interconnected workstreams: first, we have integrated KiltHub with OA Switchboard to automatically generate metadata-only records for CMU authors' OA publications supported by transformative agreements, turning publisher notifications into repository presence without burdening authors or staff or splitting impact metrics across multiple versions of a publication. Second, we are embedding repository content within external platforms: for example, OER deposited in KiltHub are surfaced directly within POEM, an IMLS-funded open educational resource platform for AI literacy, enabling discovery in the contexts where users already work. Third, we have integrated KiltHub with the Libraries' AI-powered chatbot, enabling users to discover CMU's open research through conversational search. Our broader open science discovery strategy also includes surfacing our transformative agreements, read-and-publish deals, and green and diamond OA publications through the chatbot's integration with SciFree, helping authors understand their open access options in real time while ensuring the Libraries’ efforts and investments don’t get buried in our website. Future work includes building out CHORD, a central exchange hub for verified metadata about research data, and creating a new module for the Open Science Primer on making open science infrastructure more interoperable.

something i really resent is that they made a machine that uses every public thought we've ever had, and now it's our job to carefully edit every public thought so it doesn't sound like the machine, which is continuing to steal our every public thought by the minute

AUTHORS AGAINST BOOK BANS
STATEMENT OF OPPOSITION RE: HOUSE
RESOLUTION 2616
"THE STOPPING INDOCTRINATION AND PROTECTING KIDS ACT"
MAY 18, 2026
Authors Against Book Bans (AABB) strongly opposes House Resolution 2616 (The "Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids" Act) and the suppressive effects it could have on school libraries and student education. As a coalition of authors, illustrators, editors, and other book creators, we unequivocally support the availability of diverse stories on library shelves and the freedom for every child to exercise their right to read.
The proposed amendments to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 would withhold ESEA funding from schools that "teach or advance concepts related to gender ideology," as defined in section 2 of Executive Order 14168. This attempt to codify the inaccurate definitions outlined in that EO - which falsely equate gender ideology with gender identity — will have detrimental effects throughout our schools and society.
While the bill claims to be about "protecting kids," this is a smoke screen we've seen before. HR 2616, as written, is an attempt to target and eliminate not just trans and nonbinary books, but any mention of the existence of gender non-conforming people.
The proposed amendment narrows the perspectives permitted in school discourse and flouts the long-standing legal precedent that supports constitutionally protected speech in schools.
In his opinion for 1982's Board of Education v. Pico, Justice William J.
Brennan, Jr., wrote:
"In sum, just as access to ideas makes it possible for citizens generally to exercise their rights of free speech and press in a meaningful manner, such access prepares students for active and effective participation in the pluralistic, often contentious society in which they will soon be adult members."
Students have an inalienable right to access literature with diverse ideas and perspectives for their personal and educational development. It would be particularly damaging to those students whose "fully internal and subjective sense of self" (90 Fed. Reg. 8615) is targeted and negated under this bill, who would no longer be able to see themselves reflected in books at school.
We at AABB ask the House Education & Workforce Committee members to consider the potential ramifications of HR 2616 and prevent this bill from going any further. We stay committed to doing everything in our power to defend the freedom to read.
Sincerely and respectfully, Authors Against Book Bans
