Public transit is treated with a scarcity mentality despite how wildly efficient it is. Mobility is a critical public good and cities need to be doubling down on BRT, trains, lightrail, etc. We need transit abundance to combat the continuing privatization and commercialization of our streetspace.

The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail shows just how transformative public transit can be. But for too long, riders have had to put up with delayed trains, overcrowded platforms, and long-promised expansions that have yet to become reality. Our communities deserve better.

oh and one more note - this is not rocket science and doesn't require fancy new technology. The systems for fixing our trucking problems in cities already exist and have been invented. What's needed is bold leadership and big changes to funding decisions. If NYC succeeds, other cities will follow.

Of course transition time is necessary! But without a forcing function, it's too slow. Massive investments need to be made into this transition ASAP. Take the BQE money, and use it to get trucks off the roads in the city. It's going to cost billions to keep the status quo - which is hurting everyone

NYC is running away from what is obviously needed - rethinking freight. This highway needs to be replaced with at-grade light rail, low speed car lanes, and new trucking alternatives. Water and rail should be used for the big stuff, and then move materials onto the little guys for last mile.

It’s remarkable how many people can move on a street when those people don’t feel the need to always take a massive car with them. Mobility in cities is about space.
Busy European street with buses filled with people in a long line of people on bikes, waiting for the light to change in a separated, protected bike lane. Imagine if all those people or each in a separate car.

Reducing 6 lanes to 4 in America's most densely populated city! Reducing 4 lanes to 2 - preach! Cities really need to support their population by reducing the footprint of the private vehicle - which has been making the cities hotter, have worse air quality, and way too LOUD. Keep it coming!

One of the most important things in Hudson County in many years. JFK is Hudson County's Boulevard of Death. BRT would make JFK safer by: 1. Redesigning JFK to be safer for all road users 2. Shifting traffic to transit. Buses are *60X* safer per passenger mile than private cars. Be there!
