Australia's media and political class should be much more concerned about why the lead safety person at OpenAI, David Robinson, just resigned. His view is: "OpenAI does not have the culture of safety necessary to protect the world from what it is building...a problem endemic to the AI industry." 💥

We don’t think the case for this has been made. One constant in the global history of policing is that every weapon given to cops, they will eventually use. Therefore, every force escalation requires compelling justification.

A few months ago, I met Kaitlin Andrews, who runs the Schools Consent Project. The group isn't a traditional sex-ed nonprofit; rather, it's a legal organization staffed by attorneys leading workshops for middle, junior high, and high school students. It uses the language of liability to outline for students what is and isn't appropriate, how to intervene as a bystander, and what is unfortunately a problem for this generation that wasn't for mine: the legality of distributing nude photos of other minors.
I asked her at what age they were seeing students share nude photos of their classmates. Fifth grade, she said.

Caitlin Johnstone @caitoz post reading:
The mass atrocity in Gaza is a genocide, obviously, and is an undisguised ethnic cleansing operation.

But it's also a lot more than that

It's an experiment — to see what kinds of abuses the public will accept without causing significant disruption to the imperial status quo.

It's a psychological operation — to push out the boundaries of what's normal and acceptable in our minds so that we will consent to even more horrific abuses in the future.
