A Zelda-style game on the Commodore 64 that looks closer to the SNES than the NES. Mythos was an incredible demo hiding inside a C64 release, showing just how far it could be pushed, before being quietly abandoned.

Gradius III SA-1 is one my most proud ROM hacks. Zero slowdown. Gameplay fluid as a rocket. You can either play it unlocked (60 FPS and harder) or play the Origin version (60 FPS with speed controls for fair difficulty). It's available for download and works on real hardware.

The only thing wrong with Elevator Action Returns is that it released in a moment that wasn't interested in it — that shouldn't stop you from playing this classic today. Taito's arcade sequel to the original Elevator Action is bigger, faster, and shows how much the industry changed in 11 years.

Everyone talks about how you can play SoulCalibur on Dreamcast with a fishing rod, but did you know you can play Soul Edge on PS1 with a mouse? This excerpt from the Soul Edge Official Guide Book says you can, alt-text for more! You can also play with a NegCon, the game even has a 3D model for it.

A page from the Japanese book Soul Edge Official Guide Book (ISBN 4-89366-687-8), taken via a phone camera. Very loosely translated, this explains that you can play the game using a mouse, with moving the mouse assigned to movement, left-click for A, right-click for B, hold left-click for G, hold right-click for K, press both for A+B+K, hold left-click then press right-click for A+G and hold right-click then press left-click for B+G.

This also explains you can play the game with Namco's twisty NegCon controller, and mentions that a 3D model of said controller will appear in the Key Config menu when you have one plugged in, but apologises for not having a 3D model of the mouse.

jnmartin and I are revisiting our port of #MarioKart 64 to the Sega #Dreamcast and are prepping for a rerelease. He's offloaded all audio processing to our SPU and redone the renderer, while I've gone and optimized all of the math and vector routines for BIG FPS GAINZ! #retrogaming #n64 #gamedev
