Now, I have printed all 1U #keycaps of the #C64 #keyboard with #dyeSublimation. After I started holding them with pliers, I have applied more pressure and did not screw up any.

The UV printing tray can also hold the original keycaps. Could be handy for a keycap job. You see, that the keycaps are complete and you don‘t lose the order.

I have laser engraved a black keycap a bit deeper, painted the legends with model paint, let it dry for a week and brushed the excess off with the Dremel and a 300 grid tool. The final touch was wiping the surface with isopropanol and a nano sponge.

Yesterday, I have tested a new medium sized #hotPlate (for #SMD #soldering). The control response is quite good. The set temperature is reached reliably and without any overshoot. After placing a medium-sized heat sink on it and later removing it, the resulting temperature drop was acceptable.

I know, that it is childish. Alternative Commodore key keycaps. I had to fill the space on the dye sublimation paper and also enjoy to play with Inkscape. With the navy guy, chatGPT assisted. Of course, I did all that to learn about #dyeSublimation 😉 #C64 #keyboard #keycap

I an still trying to find a good way for a reproducible was to dye sub the #C64 #keycaps. The silicone was not great, actually. The 2mm piece is soft (shore 5A), but the pressure in the center of the concave top was not high enough. Compressed aluminum foil was best, yet.

I could have put the keyboard and the ESD mat on the ground. Instead I used a ladder. Because it was funny. Or the lazy solution. Yesterday, the UV printed keyboard arrived. So I could finish the „UV printed keycaps“ chapter of my #C64 #keyboard documentation.

It is 3am, you want to tell somebody about good heatsinks for the job and there is no suitable picture on your iPad. You heed to go downstairs to take some… then passion kicks in and you feel, you need to fire up Lightroom and GIMP. I discovered the focus blur filter of GIMP. Cool!

I was testing, if the uv decals would wear off. Wrote a BASIC program to count and pressed the prepared button 10,000 times. Well… the uv decal was not harmed, my arm still hurts, though. #Commodore #C64 #keyboard

My C64 USB keyboard with original keycaps. I used the keycap adapters, which came with the Retro Fuzion Mechboard. They replaced it. I used the replacement and kept these one. Some flawless new keycap nipsies are on their way. Oh, and some authentic desk clutter 🤣

I took some photos of the #C64 #keyboard with the iPad. Well, there is always something, that I dislike. A camera on a tripod is much better. I have tried to adjust the position of the case parts with a ruler. Oh well, I hate kneeling on the floor, which is clearly visible in that picture 🤣🤣🤣

It is great to have an inspection flap like this. A broken trace on the PCB fixed. Unfortunately, I had another problem, which let me take off half of the keycap and switches.

One step back, actually two. The screw post snapped off of the left plate, after I printed out the latest design. So, I have increased the diameter and added some stabilization wings. So, left plate, third print. And since the right plate got winged posts, too, I will reprint that, as well.

I have made an enclosure for my #C64 #keyboard project, in case it is used as a #USB keyboard for #VICE. It is better than the „open frame“ design for mounting it into a C64. I am still optimizing, so I guess, I will print every part twice.

So, today, I have made some „special keycaps“ for using my keyboard project on the Ultimate 64. This modus works like intended. Actually, it was quite a bit of work for just three keycaps. I had to make changes in 5 keyboard layouts.

Due to my #C64 #keyboard project, I got interested in keycap printing. Right now, I laser etch the legends. I think, UV printing is probably the best way and there are a couple of UV printers on kickstarter, right now. I hope, competition will make them more affordable.

Making key caps for my #C64 #keyboard project. It definitely takes its time. The laser etching takes about as long as I need for installing 9 keys on the keyboard and loading the other 3x3 jig. It is faster with a jig, than the 3 hours for 1 set without using one.
