Some days I'd get the machine with a color screen and others would be green or amber 250

You control some kind of a ship that needs to enter a ants nest and destroy x number of power capsules to move on to the next level. It's super challenging. Crystal Castles is one of those games. I first played it on an Atari 2600 back around '84-'85. This is a pretty good port for a machine with 128 bytes of RAM. 010
